About Koudede :
Renowned Tuareg guitarist and songwriter, Koudede died on Sunday, October 28th of 2012 in a car crash on his way home to his family in Niamey, Niger. Koudede was well-known and respected in the Tuareg music scene for his solo work and participation in the groups Ishumar and Inerane.
Born in Agadez (Niger), Koudede grew up in Arlit, in northern-central Niger, between the foothills of the Ayar (Aïr ) Mountains and the sands of the Sahara. He made his first guitar from a tin can. By the time he held a real guitar, he was good enough to accompany musicians such as Abdallah Oumbadougou (Takrist ‘n’ Akal).
After spending time in Algeria and Libya, he moved to Agadez, known as the Tuareg capital, and in typical nomadic fashion started to travel around the Sahel region, following the calendar of family celebrations and community festivals.
He played for a time with other Tuareg musicians before composing and performing his own original songs. He came to the notice of the public for the first time at the ‘Cure Salée’ festival (‘salt cure’).
Koudede’s music was based on a traditional ternary rhythmic structure originated from the ‘tende’ – the Tuareg drum, which is played stretched across two pieces of horizontal wood. Initially, Koudede used his guitar like the ‘tehardent’ (three string lute), but eventually he took advantage of the full harmonic range of his guitar, developing his own individual style.
Koudede’s lyrics were based in Tuareg poetry, which recounted primarily what the traveler sees around him. Koudede’s songs were arranged in the form of repeated refrains, picking up and developing proverbs, advice or parables over the course of the verses. His songs spoke of young married life; camels; virtues such as patience; children’s games; of distant Tuareg camps and difficult loves. Sometimes there was anger – against cowardice, laziness, corruption or unjust wars.

"I made this edit in tribute to the singer and guitarist Abdallah Oumbadougou (1962-2020), to his fantastic and inspiring music and to his fight for the preservation of Tuareg’s culture and music. Abdallah was one of the original creators of Tuareg guitar music. In my rework, I have incorporated melancholic and peaceful oud which goes along with the vibrant emotion from Abdallah's voice. I hope you'll enjoy this nomadic trip to the Sahara desert.''

About @abdallahoumbadougou
Born in Niger in 1961, he was a figurehead artist of the Tuareg rebellion of the 1990s, his early compositions were politically charged, addressing the fighters scattered in the desert. From 1991 to 1995, Abdallah Oumbadougou used his guitar and a tape recorder to record his songs: messages that toured the mountains of Niger and Mali, then resounded in Algeria, Burkina Faso and Libya through duplicated cassettes although banned by the then authorities.
He once said " Music played a key role in the mobilization of young people for the resistance struggles, I think that music can again be a key element in mobilizing people and mobilizing energies, this time not for war but for development."
In 2005, he participated in the Désert Rebel adventure, a series of documentaries on the cultures of resistance across the world, this first movie retracing the story of Abdallah and the ishumars (generation of young Tuareg exiles) was produced by a french director François Bergeron. The documentary is titled “Ishumars, the forgotten rockers of the desert” and the emotional song “Talla Talline Manine” is part of the soundtrack.
Since then, Abdallah has used his notoriety to preserve the Tuareg culture. He thus founded the association Takrist n tada and built two music schools: a first in Arlit, in 2000 and a second in 2003 in Agadez, Niger. In 2010 Abdallah recorded his new album, produced by Daniel Jamet. In his album Zozodinga, several songs by Abdallah Oumbadougou take up a theme that is dear to him: the need for the union of the Tuareg peoples and also related to ecology, the desert preservation and the environmental protection.
With his music, he has been around the world playing in many festivals and concerts.

I was traveling in Egypt listening to this beautiful love song by Soad Mohamed:

You sang and the universe sang with you

I firstly came across the original version thanks to a beautiful compilation by Belgium collective Radio Martiko. “A rich musical portrait from the time when Cairo was the vibrant cultural heart of the Middle East and the grandeur of the leading orchestras was incomparable.”

I asked an egyptian friend to translate it, and found out that the lyrics were speaking directly to my heart. I got obsessed by them and decided to make and edit of the song. I played with the beats, added a dubby bass, threw in some psychedelic sounds and ended up creating this chillin’ and trippin’ vibe that I hope you will travel even more further with.
