The EP from Feinheitsbrei provides the soundtrack for those who are undecided and who would rather like to have everything instead of choosing.

In his two original tracks, our long-time companion draws the listener under his spell with a unique sound design, characterized by dreamy melodies, driving basslines and subtle sound elements. Planet Caravan, Hvitling, apaj and Ykonosh breathed their own life into the tracks in an extremely creative way, giving it a distinctive personal tone.

Therefore we want to thank all artists involved for their great work, as well as our master mind Haunted Water and our artwork wizard Kilian Van De Water.

Next Summer is a journey through the on-going lockdown and summarizes Semodi’s work in his Berlin Kreuzberg studio during the pandemic winter months of late 2021. While tiresome for everybody, for Semodi it was also a time of inspiration and musical exploration crossing the boundaries of genres. Coming back from his walks through the streets of Kreuzberg, he often brought home a new melody that he could then craft into his music.

Ultimately Semodi came up with three distinct tracks and presents us with a touching and emotional record that reflects his perception and experiences during the lockdown. He thus opens up a musical perspective to this special time, that we can all relate to. While “Into Deep” is an older and more techno composition that found its way onto the record, Semodi started to work with singers to implement an element of storytelling into his more recent works.

For the title track “Next Summer” Semodi teamed up with his partner Maïlys who tells her story of the lockdown in Berlin with nothing to do outside and her desire to go out and do things again. Her spoken-word performance is embedded in a dry beat accompanied by a simple but melodic bass line. And as Maïlys expresses her hope for the time after the lockdown and her desire to dance again next summer, the music opens up and illustrates her hope with melodic arpeggios.

“Oh Boy” is a deep and driven piece of music that guides the listener into a dreamy and psychedelic parallel universe. Guest artist Antigone adds a mesmerizing dimension to the track and completes the picture with her outstanding vocal performance.

With Melokind, Nico Pusch and Theus Mago three skilled remixers contribute their personal interpretations of Semodi’s tracks to the record and thus broaden the multitude of genres to choose from.

While Melokind delivers a deep, melodic version of “Oh Boy” that radiates the positive warmth of a festival afternoon, Nico Pusch contributes an up-tempo tech house version of the same track that will work nicely on peak time main floors. Theus Mago presents us with his never-ending-lockdown psychedelic remix of “Next Summer”.

Amount  and  Tiefgeist  team  up  for  EP  number  twenty  on  Heimlich  Musik,  col-laborating  between  Munich  and  Berlin  to  deliver  two  fresh  original  mixes  with  Arutani  and  Lukas  Endhardt  on  remix  duty.  Beam  Me  Up  is  a  reduced  version  of  slowed-down  house  with  cosmic  synth  lines  building  upon  a  foundation  of  analog  drums  and  an  energetic  bassline.  Reise  durch  den  Äther  takes  a  darker  path based on a hypnotic synth structure inspired by Dub Techno with psyche-delic accents fl oating along with the arrangement. While Arutani’s interpretation of Beam Me Up makes use of his emotional signature style somewhere between melancholia and euphoria, Lukas Endhardt’s remix of Reise durch den Äther is full of energy with a banging bassline and trippy elements strongly inspired by the original’s main synth theme. When we first heard the tracks by Niju and Malü, our thoughts wandered straight to the beautiful time of the festival season. With their light-footedness and the still pressing bass, they are perfect for making the crowd shake at sunrise in the forest on a Monday morning.

I remember the day. We first drove down Stellavista in the property agent's car, and how exhilarated Fay and I were, despite our bogus front of bourgeois respectability. Fay, I think, was even a little awed - one or two of the big names were living on behind the shuttered terraces - and we must have been the easiest prospects the young agent had seen for months. Lola Villa takes the time for a small journey into time and space. This is her first offering for Shango Records. These three tracks will shine like bright stars into the darkest night. La Dame, MAUGLI, Centaurus A, Richard Elcox & Matija are cosmonauts in a mysterious galaxy called “destiny”.
