This past November the stars collided to bring together Pelehon and GriffinGrrl on the decks. The atmosphere created was truly magical as these two ladies were connected by their love for deep and luscious sounds, but had not yet shared a dance floor. This set the stage for a beautiful night of musical storytelling. The energy in the room felt too infectious not to share, and since we weren’t recording, we decided to record and release our sets together for Planemo.

For the first hour tune in to the rhythms of GriffinGrrl. GriffinGrrl has been a fiery catalyst for creative collaborations since the 90s LA rave scene. With talents spanning from DJ, radio host, club co-founder, to current residencies held with Uniting Souls and LOST, GriffinGrrls magnetic energy continues to fuel countless amazing experiences. 

The second hour is curated by Pelehon, a Tremulant resident who began weaving stories through sound 3 years ago. Pelehon enjoys layering melodies and rhythms to provide a soundtrack to get lost in… believing that through music we can express and hear what speaks beyonds words.

Hello again! This big for me, this the first studio mix I’ve released in (checks notes)… THREE YEARS. Wow. But here I am already burring the lead. This is big for me because the FIRST TWO TRACKS on this DJ mix are my ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS, from my forthcoming, debut EP “Cptn Jay - Loves You”.

How about THAT!? OOOOOMG! But more on that in moment.

We’ve all, ALL OF US IN THE WORLD, have been dealing with three years of extreme stress and trauma. That’s unbelievable, an 8 billion person shared experience. I was lucky, I could burry myself in my studio, and only tangibly sacrifice social engagements, hugs, and connecting with people on dance floors. This doesn’t, however, mean it was “easy”. It hans’t been “easy” for any of us.

As things open up again and we all struggle to reintegrate I do feel that we’re lacking any kind of group acknowledgement around how terrible the last few years have been, and have been suffering from a collective lack of grief, healing, and closure. I chose the voice sample for the intro of this set (it is not in the original track) to help us recognize that we, all humanity collectively all over the world, have gone though a massive shared trauma and hopefully we can understand that when assessing the state of the world and how we’re treating each other. 

I started working on Rings of Venus early in the pandemic, we’re talking pre-Delta, when I had NO IDEA what I was doing or how I could get these weird sounds from the modular to “make a track”. Now, listening back to it, it really really captures my emotional and mental state from that time, almost like a musical journal. Reserved, experimental yet innocent, melancholy but ultimately positive. I never thought about any of those things while making the track, it’s amazing to me that I can hear them in there now.

Speaking hearing things, enough babbling and on to the NEW MUSIC!! Mine and all of these other amazing artists. The rest of the tracks are all my very favorites from the last three years, good vibes music to help lift our collective spirits.

So I couldn't possibly turn down the opportunity to throw together a mix for Tremulant exploring where their deeper, downtempo house vibes meet my global, radicalized acid explorations."

Tacoma, WA-based DJ/producer Devin Kelly (AKA Adlib) has been an unwavering techno activist for over 25 years. Whether it was through his humble beginnings in small town Idaho or his decade-plus residencies with the Shameless (Seattle) and Monkey Do (Los Angeles) DJ crews, he has long been at the center of the region’s dance music underground. His mixture of heady yet crowd rocking house and techno cuts earn him regular headlining spots at clubs, renegade parties and festival across the Western US and beyond. But he is best known for his co-creation of the legendary Esthetic Evolution music and arts festival and his long career as a political and community organizer. These backgrounds bring a sense of collective empowerment, resistance and celebration into all of his DJ sets and events. His newest project, “For Love and Struggle,” uses music, community and social commentary to bridge these worlds, because there are 33 revolutions on the turntable and one in the streets.

Space Medicine Feat. Adlib

When I was a kid, I used to wake up with ink stains on my shirt from falling asleep writing so much poetry. Often I wouldn't know what exactly I would even be writing about until I felt like a piece was complete, and only after I read it all the way through did I know what I was trying to express.

I wasn't quite sure what Left of Exile meant to me at first, but looking back now I can tell it's about the story of how I've overcome loneliness and isolation in my life. I look back on these mixes and remember what was happening in the world at that time, as well as whatever I happen to be going through both good and bad.

I hope this marks a time in your life as well. I'm appreciative of going on this journey with you. Thank you for going on it with me 🙏🏽

Letters of Exile: 03

Have you ever wanted something your whole adult life that was just out of your reach? Have you worked really, really hard to get somewhere, to achieve some seemingly unattainable goal? Have you poured countless hours over decades into a craft that is your labor of love? Do you struggle with carving out following or a way to connect with the masses in an overly saturated, not quite so artistic marketplace that is bogged down by mediocrity and an absurdly low bar of entry?

If so you will resonate deeply with this moment. Getting the incredible opportunity to DJ at Opulent Temple was a culmination of twenty years of hard work, the kind of stage I've always wanted to play on, at an event that I call home. The response was overwhelming and I can't thank everyone enough for supporting me here and at every step along the way.

The point is to DANCE TOGETHER to amazing music, to experience one-ness with strangers, to share a moment of connection in our isolated experiences fo the world. For an hour in the dust on Monday night were all together on one vibe, in the same moment, part of the flow. Immediacy, connection, community, creativity, play, inclusion, all together.

Thanks to Syd, Connie, Dulce and all the OT team, you all create magic!! Thanks to all my friends and family who came out to dance, you melted my heart. And thanks to Lary Harvey for creating and evolving and keeping this ridiculous thing going all these years. May your soul be ever philosophizing and creating community in the cosmos.
