It is not everyday we are sent a 5 hour mix from someone we have asked to join our Phonica mix series; but when Sheffield & Manchester legend Luke Una sends one… you have to jump straight into it! Having become first recognised in the late 80’s and 90’s as one half of production team “The Unabombers” with Justin Crawford, Luke over the years has shown to be a master in all genres be it Balearic, to Brazilian to E soul, House, Disco and Techno, you name it! With his Worldwide FM show over the years gaining a cult following Luke has gained an even more of a broader crowd from his curation of his E Soul Cultura compilation series via the label Mr.Bongo (Both comps topping our EOY lists in 2022 and 2023). This exact vast taste (that is displayed in these compilations) is very much pummelled into this five hour journey of a mix like a piece of clay and sculpted into a fine piece of art. Paris based @aleqsnotal strikes right in the middle with some killer cuts straight from his shelves!

DJ and producer, Aleqs has shaped the underground music scene since the early 2000s with a sound influenced by Detroit and Chicago. Known for soulful House and deep Techno rhythms, he gained prominence through DJ scratching competitions and international label compositions. In 2020, he launched I.L Recordings. His career highlights include releases on ClekClekBoom Recordings, Finale Sessions, and the acclaimed “Ascending Nodes” on Sistrum Recordings in 2017. Aleqs has performed alongside icons like Larry Heard and Moodymann in top venues like Fabric and Tresor, consistently pushing boundaries with his deep, raw sounds.

On Friday I had the pleasure to share the wonderful DOKA booth with my friend Fleur Du Bonheur . I got on the decks at from 2.30 until 6. Loads of friends were in the audience. I prepared a mix out of literally just downloaded tracks that really tickled me, a bunch of things i am quite familiar with and then i brought two bags of records both new and old, different styles, guilty pleasures, old friends and new conquerings.
DOKA is up there with all the best booths I ve ever played, even down to the height adjustable table, the monitoring, the way it's shaped etc. 
It's always pure joy to inject a bit of Marcel into the room and find a common narrative and ways to tickle our eardrums. 
I dont often get the chance to share my livesets, so i am quite happy to do so. Hope you ll enjoy and if you didnt make it this time, hopefully see you on the dancefloor next time <3
Thanks for everyone for did come out and celebrated this evening with us together. The people were as always top notch. Extremly friendly vibes. I feel blessed.

Cottam shot to notoriety in 2009 with three limited edition 12”s that blew up the underground deep house and nu-disco scenes with no advertising and no info – combining neo-soul, afrobeat and hip hop with slo-mo house grooves all three sold out in double quick time and ended up in many ‘best of 2009’ charts. 
Since then, Cottam has concentrated on developing his own style of sub-aquatic acid house – remixes for Luv Jam on Phonica’s label, Pattern Select on Delusions of Grandeur and Morning Factory on 20:20 Vision offshoot Fina have complemented original tracks on Quintessentials, Wolf Music, German undercover label Story and the summer anthem ‘Sunrise Sunset’. The journey continues with his most accomplished tracks yet on the Deep Deep Down EP for Aus Music and a remix for Geoff Leopard on Endless Flight due out early 2012. He hasn’t completely given up the re-works either with Cottam 4 seeing Plantlife get the treatment and there is even a Cliff Richard remix doing the rounds! Cottam is biding his time with much more music to come next year (when his toddler starts nursery) and he can devote more time to production.
A burgeoning career behind the decks has seen Cottam DJ around the world from London & Ibiza super clubs to the dirtiest basements of Berlin and Manchester. A studio mix recording can never match the off the cuff ideas and crowd interaction of a live set, that can take in anything from Balearic disco edits to rough techno slowed down to a sexy shuffling tempo, classic house to euphoric disco all mixed with a skill, grace and swagger, topped off with a trademark cap.
