After releasing a string of Various Artist 12"s La Peña is a regular in any favourite DJ’s record bag. Now it’s time for the next step.  

"After all these Various Artist EP’s i wanted to focus on one artist at a time that would  allow them to really show a spectrum as broad as possible.  

How people consume music changed in last 30 years. When i got into music in the first place it was all about the album. The full package with cover, artwork, side notes. I want to bring back that feeling in terms of programming, artwork and listening pleasure. Following the tradition of my favourite rap LP’s the tracks are all connected with skits and interludes for a full listening experience. It’s dance floor material, but the LP feel of it makes it great for home listening as well.

I am really happy to kickstart this with Fabe. I got introduced to him by a friend a few years ago and it´s crazy how this guys turns up from track to track. I think this is his strongest release so far as he really shows what he is capable of in terms of style. Super happy to have him onboard as he is one of loveliest guys around as well. Salut Fabe !!! I call bullshit. eleven is number were up to, and this episode is brought to you by the enigmatic maestro Woz aka Perrindome aka the 3D dreamboat aka the acapella prince aka vanilla Craig David. 

I’ll start from the beginning, I met Woz in Hamburg, we clubbed, was dope, we chilled after, also dope, and then this mthfkr starts spitting out Quasimoto acapella’s bis die Kühe nach Hause kommen! I knew then and there that Woz is king. Possibly one of Melbourne best DJ’s in possibly one of Melbourne’s best crews, Loose Joint’s! I booked to him to play at a party once just so I could take notes and study him, didn’t work. This man can play anything and everything, from Amazonian trap to Vietnamese free jazz, jumping between each genre like an Olympic trampolinist. He was born to play records, it's just a bonus that we get to benefit from it. 

The Mix, an unbelievably well curated selection of modern classical hip/trip hop, bugged out funk and the non HMV section of ‘world music’. An instant classic in every which way, if you don’t like it you’re in the wrong place and there’s a chance you might be an idiot (see a doctor) Its pairs particularly well Sunday afternoons or any afternoon really.

There was a purple sky and the black clouds seemed ominous and gloomy. The rain poured with prolific intent on the night that she left me, at least that was as much as I could remember before the blackout. Sat upon the boulevard i recalled watching the stars darken under the haze of the midnight fog, the sirens in the distance roaring up and down upon the tarmac chasing villains and rogues. You could hear the sound of the waves rumble softly in the distance, I didn't care...

Quaid is set to release a new album on the Melbourne based imprint Couch Acid Recordings, an assortment of moody house, disco and boogie which lends a nod of the head to the days of funk, soul and classic hip hop.

This weeks mix is a first for us. It’s a live set, from Melbourne’s Escape Artist (https://soundcloud.com/escapeartistaus). Emerging into the scene last Summer, he’s handed over a number of astonishing releases and tracks - most recently his ’Signs of Life’ EP for the eponymous Salt Mines (https://soundcloud.com/salt-mines) imprint. 

The hour long set is a well-rounded mass of atmospheric house and breaks - laced with a soothing “flora and fauna” ambience that Escape Artist seems to do so well. It’s a ride you’ll want to enjoy over and over again. The set was recorded at the latest rendition of ‘Elsewhere’, an event put on by the folks of the Temporal Cast label.

Following the success of Mildlife's 'Phase', Research brings you an all-star cast delivering their take on their pick from Mildlife's debut album released early 2018 via Research Records. 

Melbourne-Berlin transplant, master producer Tornado Wallace kicks off the EP with his take on 'The Magnificent Moon'. Wallace delivers a stripped back, break infused cruiser, mutating Kevin McDowell's vocals into an unknown alien tongue whilst staying true to the originals infectious melodies. 

Joining Wallace on the A side is Melbourne's own, Butter Sessions label-bosses, beat makers and party starters, Sleep D.The duo takes you on uncharted odyssey through their version of 'Im Blau'. Psychedelic swells lurk under dubbed out chords, cosmic fragments of the original are revealed before a bounty of bongos and congas take over! 

On the flipside Swedish disco-house rockers Mount Liberation Unlimited turn 'The Gloves Don't Bite' on its head with an extended 12-minute take! A re-imagined bass line mixed with quirky Swedish vocals, and their signature drum freak-outs makes for a memorable ending to this diverse EP.
