His name has become an anticipated one in the scene. Consistently delivering quality releases that have gained support from UKF, BBC Radio 1, Skank and bass, and Drum&BassArena to name just a few.
His unique approach and sound delivery have served to solidify him within the culture both locally and internationally. Releases stretching from the entirety of Europe , South America , New Zealand and back home to South Africa affirm his understanding and love for drum & bass. Having run his imprint Rubricate Records for over 5 years, supporting local producers as well as signing top tier internationals shows his dedication to the scene. What an honour for us to have him on the Phase catalogue!

SPLAH! Is a minimal roller, crafted with a maximalist approach. This tune contains different counter melodies, sharp drum work, funky stabs and a fun vocal sample. Mashed together into one banger, it provides DJs with this track on their USB’S an endless number of creative possibilities. Additionally, ravers and listeners who are fans of the more stripped down side of drum and bass will be delighted at the tracks evolution and drive. It remains interesting throughout, utilising intricate and careful variation in its elements.

Rui Pité is RIOT, producer and musician from Lisbon. His history is inextricably linked with the progression of Portuguese Bass Music culture – from being a part of the oldest Jungle/Drum & Bass collective in the country (Cooltrain Crew), to founding the first national label releasing this genre (Faster Music), he helped shape the foundations on which we stand today.

His never ending need for experimentation led him on an incursion into the sounds of “Progressive Kuduro”, where he founded the world acclaimed – “Buraka Som Sistema”. Alongside fellow artists Branko, Blaya, Conductor and Kalaf, he helped shape the Future Sound of Lisbon as we hear it today – crossing african influences with european rave culture, to create what is mainly known today as “Zouk Bass”. In 2016 he returned to Drum & Bass with a single alongside “Mikal” on the seminal “Metalheadz”, followed up by a solo EP on Lisbon based Skalator Music.

It is always special for us to have the chance to work with and release Portuguese artists, and specifically RIOT. With all this in perspective, we are very happy to announce the “Speedball EP” – featuring three carefully crafted razor-sharp cuts, where “Zoukbass” meets the Counterpoint trademark bassline groove.

Speedball is understandably the title track of the EP. The futuristic sounds of the intro build anticipation towards
the unexpected array of percussions which stand out after the drop. Clearly you can hear RIOT’s
experimentalism at it’s best, portraited in an arrangement of African rhythmic influences, which create a sonic
atmosphere of constant suspense and mystery.
