Counterterraism - Pollylove 128 - 29/07/2022

Moderna's style is described as a dark heady blend of Dark Disco, Elektro, Acid and Techno with wrought darkened vocals that have become her signature distinction.

Her discography includes 3 EPs with Mexican artist Theus Mago which are on Kill the DJ’s Lumiere Noire series, French label La Dame Noir and Barcelona-based This Side Up.

Her most recent remixes were for Sebastien Chenut of Scratch Massive, Macauley on Twirl Records, Imaski on Establishment, Machino on Glauben Records and the latest for Bad Habits of Lithuania.

Now residing in Berlin the Los Angeles transplant is touring worldwide and curates her well-regarded Hybrid Radio show and Label Brave New Rave.

After their remix of 'Ritmica La Noar' from Eliezer & Mufti, included on Eliezer's recent release on Play Pal, French duo Kimshies are back on board, this time on our mix series, with one hour that faithfully reflects their signature sound of raw, cold and twisted analogue grooves.

In 2004 they released "Chicago 72", limited to 500 vinyl copies and it was not until May 2018, when the public discovered it during Solomun's 'Cercle' set at the Orange Roman Theatre.
Peo Watson and Bijou Williams have known each other for over 20 years now but it was in part this late exposure, what made them get back together in the studio and start making new music again. Music  we've seen released lately on labels such as Aeon, Ombra Intl, Duro or with us at Play Pal.

NIR Chapter #21 ALVARO CABANA

Bonnie Spacey had her musical light bulb moment after hearing Miss Kittin & The Hacker for the first time. It was the turn of the millennium and this introduction led her to dive deeper and deeper into electronic music. 

When she eventually decided to pursue it herself, as a DJ and producer, she began to pair these sounds with another of her formative influences, her intrinsic love of guitars, which was passed down through her guitarist father. She explores the intersection of these sounds though indie dance, heady techno and dark disco, in both her DJ sets and her own output.

As a space to share her own music and those of likeminded artists, in 2019 she launched Critical Monday, a label dedicated to a club-ready concoction of techno and rock-orientated music. So far she's welcomed the likes of Curses, Damon Jee, Shubostar, Tony Y Not, Günce Aci and Mala Ika to the imprint, all of whom share her love of these potent sonics. 

As she jets off to Mexico on a tour, we locked her in for a mix which travels through whirring, driving wave, indie dance and hypnotic techno.

Bam! We are slowly moving towards the summer and that means the festival season, but for now we are still enjoy the clubs till deep in the night. There are only a few that can catch that club-feeling in a mixtape so well as Betty does! She's not only the half of Nouveau Futur (a duo co-founded with her friend Neurotiker), but is also a true night-life veteran! A platform whose massive audience has been helping to promote the work of not only acclaimed & rising artists but also skilled wannabes for 10 years. His prolific output keeps flirting with perfection, not for nothing is he so requested for remixes and collaborations.

Yay! This year the summer has been treating us with loads of sunshine, and hopefully there are more weeks to come! For TR169 we arranged the head honcho of the Normtusa label: Molsy. He created a one hour mix packed with bangers sauced of with his signature blend of indie, dark-, and techno sounds. Perfect for those sunset moments to get ready for the night!

In a world turned upside down, where chaos reigns and uncertainty is the only constant, we, a disparate band of souls, found sanctuary in the most unexpected of places: the Counterterraism Guest Mix Series. The name itself mirrored the core of our purpose.

Counter, the antithesis, and Terra, the Earth, symbolise our ceaseless battle to navigate the tumultuous sea of a world in disarray. 

Week after week, we invite a guest, a luminary of the electronic music realm, to share their melodies and tales. These auditory odysseys become the score for our uncharted lives.

Amidst a world veering from its familiar course, we embrace it. We dance to a new rhythm, a reminder that even in a world turned strange and unrecognisable, our connection to the Earth and one another is a tether to acceptance. Life, it seemed, had taken a different path, and we, in the harmonious discord of Counterterraism, found an unconventional beauty.
