Vertigini: a shadowy pulse from Kazan’s depths. A sound alchemist conjuring dark disco, haunted house, and fractured breaks. His hypnotic grooves forge atmospheres – sweat-drenched floors or solitary listener rituals.

Echoes resonate from revered chambers: Toolroom, Nervous, Bordello A Parigi (debut vinyl, 2024). His spectral tracks are whispered by icons: Cox, Chandler, Jones, and the night’s elect.

Architect of Soul Beach Records, he channels global phantoms through the imprint. As a DJ, he weaves spectral edits with vintage house energy, Balearic whispers, and breakbeat fractures – crafting forbidden sonic journeys.

"All good things come in threes" is an ancient concept, known as the "rule of three" or Omne trium perfectum, that suggests things are more satisfying, memorable, and effective when presented in a group of three. This principle is deeply ingrained in human psychology, as our brains are naturally wired to find patterns and remember information in threes, making the concept influential in fields like writing, storytelling, and design. 

Back once again for his third instalment we have non other than the master craftsman that is Mr Wilkinson.

Drawing on both the past and present his mixes span across acid, guitar, cosmic, Italo, disco, rave and chug – all underpinned with driving basslines and a fair bit of bottom knocker.

It's a sentimental set for me personally because it tied together memories with old and new friends from all over. My heart grew bigger, the overall experience was profound and the atmosphere was immaculate. When I was playing I felt a strong connection with the crowd, I felt emotional to be completely honest. When Ballan lands on a label, it’s rarely by accident. The globe-hopping producer has a knack for weaving together the raw energy of Electro, the swing of UK Garage, and the cheeky irreverence of House into tracks that sound as spontaneous as they are deliberate. With releases on Bliss, Sucre Discs, Non Stop Rhythm, Howl and his own imprint Phlex Recs, Ballan has carved out a corner of the underground where grooves hit heavy but always come with a wink.

His latest adventure finds him on Alec Falconer’s ever-mischievous SUNNY label, following Phill Prince’s “Playground Pleasure” with an equally playful yet razor-edged two-tracker: “Different Shapes / Eurocup Mess.” One track born on a beach in Thailand, another out of admiration for Thierry Henry and a love letter to Electro - together they encapsulate Ballan’s refusal to play by any rulebook except his own.

Fresh off a Euro summer and ahead of his contribution to the art:cast series, Ballan sat down with Torture the Artist to talk about the accidents that make tracks special, guilty pleasures that would shock the underground, and why every morning starts with coffee, a computer, and a burst of creativity.

Counter, the antithesis, and Terra, the Earth, symbolise our ceaseless battle to navigate the tumultuous sea of a world in disarray. 

Week after week, we invite a guest, a luminary of the electronic music realm, to share their melodies and tales. These auditory odysseys become the score for our uncharted lives.

Amidst a world veering from its familiar course, we embrace it. We dance to a new rhythm, a reminder that even in a world turned strange and unrecognisable, our connection to the Earth and one another is a tether to acceptance. Life, it seemed, had taken a different path, and we, in the harmonious discord of Counterterraism, found an unconventional beauty.
