A perfectionist to the maximum, James established himself his way - applying many styles and techniques to his mixing and live act, thus creating his own concept of musical evolution. In the surreal and beautiful setting of the Château Comtal (Count’s Castle) a couple of us here at R$N saw Vox Low perform one of their very first live sets, bathed in blue and red wash lights. We and most others came away saying it was aptly monumental and a highlight of what was an outstanding line up at Convenanza, the Andrew Weatherall Festival. The band are shortly to make their UK live debut at the Alfresco Festival in Tunbridge Wells, so we are delighted they have done an exclusive mix for us, and Jean-Christophe and Benoit told us a little of their story...

Having released two EPs on maeve, the Irish quality label founded by The Drifter, Mano Le Tough and Baikal, Berliner-by-choice Kev Sheridan will release his third strike shortly. 'Before the Flood', a proper House-tune foucssing entirely on vocals, is already a mainstay and highlight in many DJs' sets and spinned by the keinemusik-crew and Innervisions label-head-honchos. Before its release Torture the Artist seized the chance to speak to Kev about being 'Alone in Berlin' and his club-experiences in the German capital, how he got infected or rather addicted to music, what he has in common with Mano and The Drifter and Kevin also mixed the latest episode of the art:cast series, of course including upcoming music from the artist.

Next up we have Israeli rising star @NivAst who is fast becoming one of our 'go to' producers. In a short time,  releases have come thick and fast on a wide variety of labels from Correspondant, Ombra and Calypso amongst others. Plus an array of remixes, most recently reworking Roe Deers on Playground Records. Get to know the man behind the music via the short interview below and listen to his peach of a mix.

1) Introduce yourself?

My name is Niv Ast, I’m a producer and dj based in Tel-Aviv

2) What have been your highlights from the last 12 months?

This year has had so many highlights its hard to choose. I've had the pleasure of playing in a lot of cool places in Europe and met some great people, also being able to release my music on some amazing labels. I'm really grateful.

3) What do you have lined up for the coming year?

Looking forward for my upcoming EP on Correspondant and another EP with Eliezer  on our own label (New Day Everyday).

Also a lot of upcoming remixes and gigs, all over the world.

Music has the power to heal and ease our minds during times of trouble and it is in that spirit that we welcome Colossio to the Play Pal Series, an artist we've been following for quite some time and whose sound fits perfect with what we like and release.

He's played at the main clubs in Mexico, regular guest at Topaz Club in Monterrey and have done recently his first tour through Europe. Although he's into a wide range of music, his sound, even at lower bpm than on his usual sets, is definitively club oriented with a driving energy that keeps pushing.

With music out on labels such as Ombra International, Calypso, La Dame Noir, Relish or Duro among many others, and new Ep's coming up on Beat Is Murder and Á Table, he's become one of the most prolific artists of last years and definitively one to watch.
