Two continents collide when Chicago rapper Kastaway and Swedish producer Cam The Downrocka join forces on this Boom Bap masterpiece. 

"The Art of Tradition" is out now via Counterweight Records on gorgeous, orange 12" vinyl, aswell as on all digital platforms.

Hip Hop has always had that special ability unite people. And this LP encapsulates that very essence. Kastaway´s powerful delivery and personal, yet, braggadocio, rhymes are in perfect symbiosis with Cam´s sample based, hard hitting, jazzy rhythm compositions.

The Art of Tradition is a celebration of Hip Hop in its prime; the golden age era when simply dope beats & rhymes were the criteria of a good album. It follows the classic "He´s the DJ, I´m the rapper" formula, walking in the footprints of legendary acts such as Showbiz & A.G., Gang Starr, Eric B & Rakim, Pete Rock & CL Smooth.

Today marks ten years since NINETOFIVE® Recordings opened up shop.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to support so many talented producers across so many sub-genres of instrumental music. Their styles are all different, but I’ve always felt they go hand-in-hand. And to celebrate a full decade of NINETOFIVE, we’re releasing a compilation that celebrates the diversity of artists and instrumental genres we love here.

For all you vinyl collectors: we’re releasing a limited-edition double LP of the album in collaboration with our friends over at Qrates. We’re only making 200 physical copies, but the compilation will be on streaming, too. (Owning the album feels way cooler, though—so go grab a copy!)

Thinking back, it’s clear how much the beat-making scene has changed since the early Soundcloud days. There’s less super-heavy sidechaining and everyone’s a little better at mixing, but the real evolution is the community that’s formed around instrumental music. That wasn’t there when we started, and contributing to it has been such an honor.

Thank you to everyone who’s shown us support over the years, listened to our releases, read our articles, or become a fan of the beatmakers in our community. You’ve made NINETOFIVE what it is today. Here’s to our second decade!

 Figured i give this challenge on sp forums a shot. I know the rule was to make the beat 2 minutes only, but i went overboard and made it 5 minutes. So I know I'm disqualified from the contest. it was more about getting inspired than a competition. 
 
 I made drums by resampling on the 404, but to get around the glitch problem resampling multiple stereo sounds.I ran 404 into 303 then dumped drums into the 202 for the dirt. Next i bounced the drums from 202 back to 404. Then the sample chops was sampled in lo fi mode on 404 added mute out and filters.Next I sampled the chops with drums back into 303 . Then dumped that the sequence with chops and drums from 303 back into 404. Added compression and vinyl sim then dumped into ableton. Yes a lot of tedious back and forth stuff in the workflow, but it was fun trying a different approach.
