With a new EP out on his own Brooklyn based Onysia label featuring tracks from himself, Rick Wade & Jeremy Sylvester, we got the bossman in to showcase what he and the label is about!

"The mix is an Onysia label spotlight, with a lot of forthcoming / unreleased material and a lot of my own productions. I've been wanting to do this for quite a while, so already had some concept / idea of how to approach it... At first it felt like this whole new challenge making a mix from a fixed, relatively small pool of tracks but then realized this is music which does fit together very well and does possess a particular aesthetic, and the process just flowed. It really does represent the Onysia sound, which I've worked very hard to curate and ensure a certain cohesion even as the scope of the label grows. The mix weaves in and out of more contemplative moments and clubbier sounds, which is how I like to experience music on the dancefloor, but it's also very tailored for home listening. It's always funny how you know a track so well, have been playing it for years, maybe you've even made it yourself. But you get a new perspective mixing it with other tracks, and depending on how it's presented within the context of a set. It's great to feel refreshed and finally share a label showcase mix !"

A native New Yorker now resident in Barcelona, Spain, Ralph Session has learned over time how to create distinct musical vibes in his productions and DJ sets. Session has been on a tear lately, releasing dope records on Freerange and Local Talk, so we asked him to put together this issue's cover mix — a 2.5 hour set for our Sanctify deep house series.

"All the shit I spoke about [in this issue's interview], I put into this mix," Ralph says. "There definitely was some drinks and a J or 2 involved, yezzir. But the mix is full of tracks that I love. New shit, my shit, classics, it's all there! I went heavy on the NY/Chicago connection because ayyy that's my shit. It's over two hours so I went to a lot of different places. Country Gents is the moniker of Lee Jones, DJ and producer.
A DJ since 1996, Lee was initially inspired by DiY Soundsystem and ethos in 1990 and ended up DJ’ing all over the UK, Europe and America before starting his own events in Reading and Oxford UK under the name Valley Moods Productions.

He started producing in 1999 and released his debut 12” that same year on Cross Section Records’ sub label Black No Sugar. He has releases on Transfusion, Soiree International, Pear Music, Manuscript Ukraine, 124 Recordings and countless releases on Deep Cartel Recordings. In the early 2000’s he worked tirelessly with Dan Cartel putting on illegal parties all over Devon and South Wales and a multitude of other areas, with festival gigs including Glastonbury, The Glade and Secret Garden Party.
  
Over the years, a number of other producers have worked with Lee as fellow Gents, but currently he is working solo from his Bristol Bus Studio in the wilds of South Oxfordshire. Lee'sbackground is firmly in the Free Party/Rave/Festival scene that dates back to 1989. as mentioned earlier, in 1990, Nottingham sound system DiY erupted into the new culture of spontaneous guerrilla raves that began for that group of travellers and townsfolk alike, which was where it all really began for him.

These are exciting times - he launched a new label called Buslife at the end of 2015. 
In April 2020 the Country Gents Radio Show moved on from 3.5 fantastic years at Release FM and then 2 years on The Underground Sessions Radio. In 2023 with the support of a team of friends Buslife Collective Radio was launched and Lee still plays every Saturday night from 6pm to 8pm GMT
The picture you see in the logo of the label also happens to be his home, hence the name!
