Stella Vetrovec ('26) and James Etherington ('26) interview Dr. George Vetrovec.   A Richmonder since 1950, George Vetrovec has been an influential part of the city’s community, most notably through his role as a professor at VCU and Head of Cardiology at MCV. Vetrovec grew up in Sandston, attended Highland Springs High School, and completed both his undergraduate degree and his M.D. at the University of Virginia. Vetrovec notes how Richmond has changed over time, the biggest difference being the absences of the Miller and Rhoads and Thalhimer’s department stores downtown. Additionally, he describes memories of key points in American history, such as Vietnam War protests on UVA’s lawn or the completion of the first balloon angioplasty in Virginia.
