A polymathic affair spanning the broadest musical bandwidth, French outlet Lowlife Cartel resurface with ‘Vuota Beatitudine’ - a fresh 8-track VA extrapolating their eclectic approach to contagious effect. 

Draped in surreally murky cover art courtesy of Paris-based artist Léa Bouton alias Absolemabsoluxe / graphic design by Metaphore Collectif affiliate Nicolas Guillerminet, this new release features contributors from distinct mental and geographical regions alike: French-American chopped-and-screwed shock outfit HERNVNDEZ ft. MXSTVH, a hi-tech DnB / raging electro crossover from Mexican producer Jegsaha, BFDM & Tresor alum Jean Redondo on duty, junglistic jazz stunts by Chicago’s KSETDEX, German ambient voodooist Lorica, spectral post-indus from PRESENTE, Italian vibist Alec Pace up with a ragga-informed vengeance and Memphis-via-Mexico style slowed-’n-throwed madness from MVRKMVCHINX. 

Lovers of Southern lo-fi rap narratives will find in both HERNVNDEZ ft. MXSTVH 'Artes Oscuras' and MVRKMVCHINX ‘Shutter' the kind of lo-slung gangsta heat to wake up both grillz-teethed zombies and have these gold-felloed Cadillacs’ afterburners flaring. Hailing from the Mexican capital city, Jegsaha fires off a barrage of breaks-laden fire, processed vox menace and frantic bass onslaughts that go straight for the jugular. Fragmenting the groove down to molecular abstraction, Redondo treats us to a mischievous hybrid of ghetto-tech’y jack and discombobulated post-pop experiment with ‘You!’, whereas US producer KSETDEX welds a smokey jazz piano onto a muscular UK bass chassis on the addictive ‘Gemini’. 

Flip it over and there’s Frankfurt-based producer Lorica dishing out a hypnotic slice of atmospheric electronics, both immersively brooding and unimpeachably uplifting in equal measure. ‘Vuota Beatitudine’, the track that gives its title to the EP, works a distinctively paradoxical strain of rattling floor rhythms and zero-G escapology, in limbo betwixt heaven and hell. Conjuring up an infectious palette of ragga-infused maneuvers and packing massive bass and snare-heavy punch, Alec Pace’s fiery ‘Mantra Separation’ is prototypical dancehall arson rolled into a steely techno membrane. A wide-ranging display of explosively diverse, satisfyingly weird sounds to keep minds and bodies on the edge.

Early Reflex proudly presents 63N3RD [EYX021] introducing a bold new voice in experimental club music and the debut from biased, producer and DJ based between Milan and New York City.

63N3RD is a deeply personal project, written over a year while living in NYC, the EP draws from 16 years of clubbing experiences and biased's love for mixing and playing diverse sounds. It blends the unconventional with the danceable, capturing what he describes as "something you might not expect to sound good together, but somehow it does”.

The opener ‘K:umbia’ is a bold reinterpretation of cumbia rhythms, layered with experimental electronic textures and basslines that nod to his eclectic influences. ‘Winded’, follows next, with its pulsating off-kilter percussion and atmospheric undertones, capturing the restless energy of modern urban nightlife. The journey continues with ‘Riddimsburg’, an intricate blend of syncopated beats and sub-heavy grooves that weave unexpected elements into a compelling rhythmic tapestry. The EP closing track ‘Sottoterra’ brings a brooding yet dynamic track inspired by underground aesthetics, marrying dark ambiance with a forward-driving pulse

“I'm not a sound engineer. I just spent the last 16 years of my life clubbing and finally found a way to sum up a bit what these years have sounded into my ears. I wrote this EP over 18 months while living in NYC. It is deeply influenced by this experience as it is by all of the past music/club-related ones. It summarizes pretty much what I listen to and what I really like to mix and play. While working on this EP, I aimed for something a bit unconventional but still danceable—something you might not expect to sound good together, but somehow it does.”

Following the launch of the Eyes series, Early Reflex welcomes back Ikävä Pii for “Eyes II”, the second entry in this exploratory two-tracker format. 

Possibly the darkest tracks Ikävä Pii has produced to date, ‘False Binaries Fight for Primacy’ and ‘Permaweird’ are two detailed and twisted club tunes, encapsulating the perennial state of frustrated urgency of our times. 
Uneasy feelings are conveyed in both tracks, and refracted through the artist’s signature playful approach.
False Binaries Fight for Primacy is driven by the eerie ambiguity of its major/minor harmony, and a relentless rhythmic section that nods to post-punk as much as the track’s distorted, shouty vocals. The unsettling main theme of Permaweird is hinged on an alteration of the Locrian mode (often deemed the “weirdest” mode), and its timbre, albeit recalling familiar patches from the Process Fatigue era, here paints a much darker picture. 
Topical and heartfelt, these tracks update Ikävä Pii’s sound with an uncanny mutation, material for a standout moment in a club set. Already secret weapons in Ikävä Pii’s live show for nearly a year, they’ve left heads spinning on dancefloors in UK, Europe and beyond, and now find their proper home on Early Reflex.

Ikävä Pii said:
“What’s the purpose of club music in a climate where alienation is the norm and outdated narratives are collapsing?
We live in the permaweird: reality gets increasingly absurd, and yet we adapt to it every day.
Nothing to fight for: digital vs physical, liberal left vs authoritarian right, old vs young - just false binaries. There must be another way. 
In the meantime, activate punk mode, shout in the mic, use stranger scales. 
The only real binary is rich vs non-rich (and that’s what clubs should be about).
Thanks Venkatesh Rao and David Rudnick for the inspiration.”
