Canadian outfit Brasstronaut are currently touring the UK release of their beautiful single ‘Hearts Trompet’.

It’s an uplifting genre-bending single which infuses pop, electronica, klezmer and jazz. It showcases their determination and sheer talent.

The band came to formation when founding member and lead vocalist Edo Van Breeman moved to Canada and met Bryan Davis (trumpet). The two formed Brasstronaut as an ambient instrumental project that combined Bryan’s classical jazz trumpet training and Edo’s background in producing electronica and playing in dance-punk bands. A natural progression happened and the mix of punk, electronica and jazz worked and they enlisted the talents of John Walsh to play bass and Brennan Saulon to play drums.

Last year was a whirlwind for the band. They released their album ‘Mount Chimera’ which gained support from the likes of Q, Uncut, The Fly and Word. The also played coveted spots at SXSW, London Airwaves and a full UK and European tour.

They have just played a series of UK dates. Keep your eyes peeled for some exciting festival slots:

Monsters Build Mean Robots (MBMR) is a Brighton-based band currently releasing through the independent Label Nice Weather for Airstrikes, a label that has been described by Artrocker Magazine as “promoting innovative and inspirational music”. What began as a side-project for members of apocalyptic-rockers, Last Days of Lorca and glitchtronica one-man-band, Court of Hidden Faces, quickly evolved into one of the seaside town’s best upcoming bands. Since unveiling their self-titled début album in 2007, the band has toured extensively throughout the UK and Ireland, and is now set to unleash their highly anticipated follow-up 2nd album ‘WeShouldhaveDestroyedOurGeneralsAndNotTheirEnemies’, featuring this single ‘Lament 77 [We Will Follow]’, with producer Andy Hawkins (Pigeon Detectives / Pulled Apart By Horses / Blood Red Shoes), this Summer.

The arrival of début album ‘Monsters Build Mean Robots’ saw the band mix electronic loops and beats, layered guitars, organ with hushed vocals, deploying an epic, slow-build form of Post-Rock with glorious swirling atmospherics. MBMR’s have gained local and national recognition with their past releases from the likes of Stuart Maconie (BBC6), Artrocker magazine, Mixmag, The Sillent Ballet, Drowned In Sound and many more. Since their previous full-length offering, the band has acquired more members and instruments, with the addition of cello, violin, bass, and melodica, creating a more wholesome and well-rounded sound. The vocals have progressed from layered and accompanying sounds prominent in the first album - to melodic, harmonious centre points, with strong and structured lyrical themes. The most recent single, ‘Psalm 57 (Or) All That Gold Did Not Help Your Soul’, began the introduction to the bands 2nd album – a more band orientated record based upon the live versions of the songs. Their music has progressed from leftfield electronica to completely unrefined Post-Rock sing-alongs, combining epic crescendos with unforgettable melodies and lyrics presenting the markings of something truly special in the making. The band has just completed a tour of UK and Ireland in March in the build up to the release of ‘WeShouldhaveDestroyedOurGeneralsAndNotTheirEnemies’.

MBMR have been lucky enough to share the stage with the likes of And So I Watch You From Afar, Staefraenn Hakon, Codes in the Clouds, her Name is Calla, iLiKETRAiNS and God Is An Astronaut, and has just been confirmed to play Meadowlands Festival with notable acts Turin Brakes, Electric Soft Parade and Mirrors.

Butterflies On Strings are an indie rock, London based 4-piece. Drawing inspiration from bands like Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, Modest Mouse and Okkervil River, they have managed to create their own unique sound: “hopeful indie-pop with the occasional bit of post-rock thrown in for shameless self indulgence”. The EP's lead track is produced by Peter Miles (The King Blues, Martin Grech) and is getting a full general release on The Kaleidoscope Label early 2012.

Butterflies On Strings - named after a friend’s recurring dream - started life as an electronic indie duo, armed with nothing more than an iPod of backing tracks and some electronic drum arrangements. It wasn't until Patrick made the shift to guitar and they found the two missing members, that the band began to hone their sound and make their mark on the London scene.

Butterflies On Strings recently featured as Gary Crowley’s ‘London Calling’ act for his BBC Radio London show. The band were then featured on Gill Mills’ 'Best of MySpace' show and were invited to play Danielle Perry and Kate Lawler’s Kerrang & Q Radio's 'New Music' night at 93 Feet East. In June 2011 Butterflies On Strings were the featured artist of the month for the PRS For Music. They were then invited to record a live session at the Red Bull Studios in London, which resulted in their “Live From London Bridge” EP.

2011 was a whirlwind year for Butterflies On Strings, but they refuse to rest. 2012 sees the release of this EP before they head into the studio to record new tracks for their follow-up and more.

Mark Corbett’s sound is easy to like, but it’s after a bit of exploration that one realizes just why Losing Today has called him “one to watch.” With a voice somehow both calming and urgent and lyrics that remind us of a folk sound from a previous generation, Mr Corbett is onto something special. His songs stay true to a deep tradition of acoustic guitars, strong vocals (they have been called “rather delicious!”) and simple percussion. At the same time he introduces elements of energy and ethereality with sturdy beats, reverb and a healthy dose of soul.
Born, bred, and currently based in Edinburgh, Mark’s first gig with a guitar (he’d started out as a drummer and percussionist) actually happened across the Atlantic in a Los Angeles bar. Nearly 2 years ago Mark decided to take some time out from living in London to travel in the United States. Following the footsteps of Kerouac and Kesey, Mark set off on a series of coast to coast adventures, spending time in American plains, deserts and mountains; crashing in motels along the way. Mark settled in sunny L.A. for 3 months. Without a drum kit, he picked up a guitar and found a voice and musical style fitting of the mythical road trips and art of 1960s America.
Mark has come a long way after playing open mic shows to random strangers across the U.S. In less than two years, he is playing gigs all over Edinburgh and London, at prestigious venues including The Lock Tavern, Proud Camden, and The Troubador. He is also gaining fawning press coverage from sources like FAULT, Losing Today, and Bearded Magazine. We’re sure to hear some great things from this artist.

Love Parry III are a Cardiff-based collective - led by former Hot Puppy Luke Taylor with recurring members Daniel Strange, Ellie Jayne Burton and Sigrid Muller - who want to party like it's 2010. Named after a notable Welsh eccentric, they came together late last year, emerging from a local scene where, away from the Sound of the Crowd, weird and wonderful music is being made for the sheer love of it by musicians freed from the desire to please anyone but themselves. LP3's house specialty is synth soaked pop/dance music of a particularly exuberant nature, all bright and shiny and bursting at the seams with ideas (mainly their own) - and, most importantly, FUN.

Their debut EP The Race For The Poison Chalice exemplifies their qualities in a kaleidoscope of choppy rhythms and glistening runs from the golden years of 70s and 80s dance music, bursts of instrumentation of pure Technicolor brilliance and alternatively coolly nonchalant and insanely excitable vocals telling strange but compelling stories. 

Love Parry III's music is like an explosion in a paint factory (Love Parry III's video IS an explosion in a paint factory). At the handful of gigs they have so far played and now with their EP, their aim is to put a smile on your face and rhythm in your step. Check them out soon - just don't wear your best clothes.

RAVENS IN PARIS are a feisty bunch of three London lads, who play high octane rock and roll. They have been around long enough to release a free download single and play a healthy number of London shows. This is a band who seem charmed. With little in the way of fanfare, they continue to receive calls out of the blue from people wanting to book them, talk with them or work with them somehow. Myspace, for one, have chosen them as one of six artists to help re-launch their revamped site later this year. The struggling internet phenomenon simply contacted RIP and invited them into their west end studios to record them performing their “Hideaway” single live to video [http://bit.ly/rip_hide_vid] for use later in 2012.

This, then, is their debut EP, “Dirty Little Secret”... and it's a goodie. Packed with 'stick-in-your-head' tunes, this perfectly formed audio bundle showcases a great band in top form. It will not be long before the dirty little secret that is Ravens In Paris is out of the bag.

Three teenage girls fronting two teenage boys is a classic combination for an award winning pop band. These fresh-faced, talented youngsters have a massive – yet to be fully exploited – potential; amazing stage presence, enviable good looks, gold medal song-writing ability and awesome raw talent. The Brit Awards, PRS, The BPI, Columbia Records and McFly among others acknowledge it. They judged Floodliners winners of the “Next Brit Thing” contest above 36,000 entrants after they fought it out with the 13 other final acts at The 02 in March 2012. All this commotion lead to a frenzied flurry of media attention. The Sun, The London Evening Standard and Music Week Magazine published features. There were also breakfast show appearances on national radio and live performances at some of the top UK venues like The Islington Academy, 100 Club, Indigo Rooms, etc. They even attracted the attention from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Divinity Roxx – Beyonce’s bass player. In a tweet, Divinity told them “Nothing but good things on the horizon for each and every one of you” and Ed personally messaged them with an encouraging “Keep it up”.

Having achieved so much to date, the band wanted to maintain the momentum and decided to release this, their debut single. It’s a double AA side featuring two power punching pop tunes; “Don’t Mess With My Song” and “It’s The Feeling”. Recorded under the watchful eye of se13records in… …London, SE13, it’s packed with punky guitars, two finger power chords and dirty bass lines reminiscent of early 80s New York disco – all delivered with an energy only five teenagers high on life can. Think The Runaways being married to The Supremes co-habiting with The Stooges and maybe N.E.R.D in a ginger bread house surrounded by a sparkly white picket fence.

We’ve lived through girl-power, boy-power, X-power and The Voice-power. It’s now time to celebrate the new, more honest, more potent, multi-sexed, harder driving youth-power.

These fresh-faced, talented youngsters have a massive – yet to be fully exploited – potential; amazing stage presence, enviable good looks, gold medal song-writing ability and awesome raw talent. The Brit Awards, PRS, The BPI, Columbia Records and McFly among others acknowledge it. They judged Floodliners winners of the “Next Brit Thing” contest above 36,000 entrants after they fought it out with the 13 other final acts at The 02 in March 2012. All this commotion lead to a frenzied flurry of media attention. The Sun, The London Evening Standard and Music Week Magazine published features. There were also breakfast show appearances on national radio and live performances at some of the top UK venues like The Islington Academy, 100 Club, Indigo Rooms, etc. They even attracted the attention from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Divinity Roxx – Beyonce’s bass player. In a tweet, Divinity told them “Nothing but good things on the horizon for each and every one of you” and Ed personally messaged them with an encouraging “Keep it up”.

Having achieved so much to date, the band wanted to maintain the momentum and decided to release this, their debut single. It’s a double AA side featuring two power punching pop tunes; “Don’t Mess With My Song” and “It’s The Feeling”. Recorded under the watchful eye of se13records in… …London, SE13, it’s packed with punky guitars, two finger power chords and dirty bass lines reminiscent of early 80s New York disco – all delivered with an energy only five teenagers high on life can. Think The Runaways being married to The Supremes co-habiting with The Stooges and maybe N.E.R.D in a ginger bread house surrounded by a sparkly white picket fence.

We’ve lived through girl-power, boy-power, X-power and The Voice-power. It’s now time to celebrate the new, more honest, more potent, multi-sexed, harder driving youth-power.

The Midlands band Minnaars release their new EP “Ideal &amp; Error” this year. The “Ideal &amp; Error EP” is a perfect recorded slice from a band that mix electronics, guitars and indie dance music with energy and precision. In fact, the 5-piece collective has been described as Math Rock mixed with Electro.

Minnaars were formed by Neil Humphrey, adding Gavin Thorpe, Benjamin Cropley, Adam Pickering and original bassist Russell Haynes. Haynes then left to be replaced by Daniel Faulkner, childhood friend of Humphrey, who completed the line-up. At their first ever show, supporting Cats and Cats and Cats in Leicester, the band were approached by Tom Woodhead of ¡Forward, Russia!, who carried on to produce them.

The band went on to perform on the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds before doing a short European tour with the band Gallops.

A 23 date European tour is underway supporting this EP taking in Paris, Berlin and Luxembourg, culminating in their only London show at The Queen Of Hoxton on 19th Feb.
