Ruth 4 (May 5, 2024)

Did you know that there are two ways to be lost but only one way to be found? In the parable of the Prodigal Son, it's actually both the younger brother and the older brother who are lost. One is lost to rebellion and one to self-righteousness, but both are equally lost. Doing all of the right things for the wrong reasons is equally as damning as living as a profligate. Reformation Sunday: Hebrews 10:11-14 (Oct. 26, 2025)

It’s a curious passage. Sandwiched between two big parables about money, we find this little passage on how Jesus’ kingdom relates to God’s law, along with a single verse on divorce and remarriage. Jesus confronts the Pharisees’ habit of minimizing God’s law in order to justify themselves. But he’ll also confront us with his high view of marriage. Luke 16:14-18 (Nov. 2, 2025)

The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is a story of reversals—a tragic reversal for the rich man, and a gracious one for Lazarus.
