It’s a parade through the city after the battle’s over, a reminder that even when life breaks us down, we rise again. It’s not polished, it’s not quiet, it’s not perfect. It’s a celebration of survival, of community, of love that refuses to give up.

If “Invisible Wars” began with hidden battles, “Never Alone” ends with victory in plain sight. It’s the full circle — from whisper to anthem. From isolation to unity. From fear to love.

This song is really personal to me, and I wanted to share it with you because I think you’ll understand. It’s about what it feels like to live with the weight of old wounds—the kind that make you feel small and invisible, like you’re always walking through haunted rooms in your own mind. The verses are all those quiet moments when I doubted my worth and kept my pain hidden, even from myself.

But as the song moves on, it shifts. I describe the moment I started to hear a faint spark inside, that tiny bit of hope or defiance that made me whisper “no” in the dark and finally start to set boundaries. It’s about realizing I could gather up my broken pieces and let myself become someone whole again, even if that process was slow and fragile.

By the end, as the music swells, I’m singing about learning to love myself—not perfectly, but honestly. The last lines are my promise to keep learning to breathe, to let love in, and to fill the empty places with my own voice. It’s a song about surviving, healing, and choosing love over fear, and every word comes straight from my story.

We are Cowboy Cadence—Bruce Jahn, Kathy Trevelyan, Ben Fortescue, and Sarah Fortescue—and for a decade, from 1985 to 1995, we operated as a fiercely independent musical ensemble. Our guiding principle was always authentic self-expression, and that meant we were involved in every single aspect of our creative journey. From the very first note written and the arrangements we crafted, to performing all the instruments and vocals, we handled it all. We even took on the meticulous tasks of recording and mixing right there in our own home setups, completely eschewing external producers, writers, or engineers. This deeply autonomous approach wasn't just a choice; it was essential for us to ensure our unique vision and genuine voice shone through in every piece of music we created.

This commitment to doing things our way truly shaped our diverse repertoire, which spanned heartfelt Country tunes, whimsical Children's songs, and playful Comedic pieces. While our primary focus remained firmly on crafting and perfecting our recordings, we also cherished the opportunities to share our distinctively homespun sound with others. We performed live at local fairs and various community venues, finding joy in those direct connections. However, we deliberately chose to limit our live events, a conscious decision to avoid the kind of intense spotlight and stardom often involved in the music industry. For us, it was always about the music itself, and the freedom to create it on our own terms.
