Next up on @idlecellars mix series we have a dear friend, legendary Dj, selector and producer @felix-dickinson blessing us with his unique style and effortless flow. Some sweet unknowns and a few lost classics thrown in, a perfect journey from start to finish.

Felix has been part of the UK's underground dance scene for the last 3 decades, learning his trade DJing at free parties and illegal raves and co-founding his first record label Ugly Music in the 90's. He's produced records for well renowned record labels worldwide including DFA, Rush Hour, Eskimo, Golf Channel, Claremont 56, Futureboogie and his own label Cynic.

He has secured slots at well known clubs and festivals across the globe, and the last few years have seen him receive a lot more attention due to his high profile residencies for Block 9 (Glastonbury) and Croatia’s Love International as well as regular appearances at Houghton, Gottwood, Thailand’s Wonderfruit festival and regular tours of Japan, the USA and beyond.

"The brief for this mix was something that you could listen to with a glass of wine in your hand as the sun goes down. It’s a pretty mellow early evening selection, something you can unwind to at the end of the day, but get’s a little more lively as the second and third glass goes down, so could just as easily be something to bung as you’re getting ready to go out."

In July 2010, I got an invitation to play at a small but neat festival named Folk Ibiza. It was my first visit to the island. I got to spin at a bunch of different locations, such as the Hostal Boutique Salinas, Sunset Ashram, and on the terrace at Space. I returned in September of the following year to play a set on Andy Wilson's show on Ibiza Sonica and a second time at the Hostal. I have not been back to Ibiza since. I recently came across this picture (taken at Cala Compte next to Sunset Ashram), which inspired me to make this mix. I tried to sonically capture the vibe that I felt back then. It includes some bona fide classics such as Ashra "Oasis“, Santana "Aqua Marine," and Jah Wobble & Holger Czukay "Hold On To Your Dreams," as well as tunes by Smith & Mudd, Begin, Quiet Village and more. Considered a bon vivant, a football pundit, and a musical polymath, our second selector hardly needs an introduction. When it comes to the world of music journalism, DJing, music history and taste, Bill Brewster is our guy! A massive record collector from age 10, Bill’s initial passion for the Punk Rock movement eventually got him into the world of dance music, which he had a go for and turned into a living, documenting it through his writing and eclectic DJ sets. 

Brewster's deep understanding of music and DJ culture led him, along with his all-time best buddy Frank Broughton, to publish ‘Last Night a DJ Saved My Life’. Regarded as an essential work on the subject, the book explores the origins of the DJ, from radio to the dance floor, providing a comprehensive exploration of memorable moments and the impact of the disc jockey.

A devotee of good gatherings, Bill has played everywhere—from his own mythical Low Life parties, encompassing two decades of friendships and memories, to Boiler Room sets and many magical Houghton Festivals. Always with a hip-loosening attitude toward the crowds, he masterfully crafts genre-fusing sessions from his vast collection of rarities, spanning intimate disco funk to obscure house.

For this occasion, he put together a mix full of jams dug from the Revibed vault that will take you for spin across decades and sensations. We were able to catch up with him to see how life is going, hear from his recent projects and insightful opinions about all things music.
