Next up for @DarkScienceElectro premieres we take a listen to a release on @PrivatePersons for modular synth-scientists @London-Modular-Alliance

London Modular Alliance is a collective that lies somewhere between a shop and a cult. From their base in the former industrial warehouses of Hackney Wick, London Modular have been designing their own cases, working out practical ways of chaining multiple synths for live performance, selling units from their shop front (counts artists including Aphex Twin, Mumdance and Radiohead and more among its customers), and taking themselves on the road to run workshops and gigs.

The track selected from this six-track EP is the mysterious 'Oscillator Reflux'. Certainly not a dancefloor banger, however, this track's beauty captivated me from the start. Its lush pads and sweeping bass line create a comfortable. almost dreamy, feel that follows through the entire track. Although not representative of the entire release, this track really got me in the feels. Make sure to check out the rest of the record for a taste of their more dancefloor-friendly tracks.

Gentrified Underground presents an interdisciplinary project
tackling the sonic fiction & afrofuturism of Drexciya. 
Thought as an extension to the Bubble Chamber exhibition happening at Mikro & UP STATE Zürich, GU releases a 2x12 vinyl compilation and a booklet with contributions by Abdul Qadim Haqq, Charlie Mills, chukwumaa, Dominiqueh White, Gentrified Underground, Maïté Chéniere and tracks by Xor Gate (Gerald Donald), Shawescape Renegade, DJ Dijital, Plant43, The Exaltics, Kuldaboli, Iko, Tom Ware, Luz1e and Sansibar.

The goal of this compilation is to showcase the reach and influence which Drexciya had through generations of electronic music producers and also link them together with compositorial predecessors from the early 80s. The musical timeline on this compilation starts from 1982 and reaches its contemporary end in 2019.

"More than twenty years after their first release, the sonic
fictions produced by Drexciya, the Detroit based electronic
duo founded by James Stinson and Gerald Donald at the
start of the 1990s, continues to enthral contemporary
cultural practitioners. By reimagining the Transatlantic
Slave Trade as a fiction of enforced mutation, the Drexciya
mythos opened, and continues to open, a speculative space
for the reimagining of the posthuman condition, and for
questions of becoming, origin and mutation in relation
to capitalism, finance and futurity." - Kodwo Eshun

The booklet contains unseen and unreleased Drexcyan drafts by Abdul Qadim Haqq, an interview between him and GU, contemporary art contributions by chukwumaa, Dominiqueh White and Maïté Chéniere and an academic essay by Charlie Mills.

Out of the “Internationale Normalitätszentrale” Bufiman delivers the soundtrack - a looong breakbeat piece loaded with Casio CZ sequences in form of sunbeams which are tickling your senses, Wolf Mülleresque kinda adlibs floating around your head and are stimulating your membrana tympanica. Precise snare drum samples from all around the globe transmitted via the MPC minister are throbbing. This is the “Members Of Warning Theme 2020”.

A darker and more disturbing approach comes from our family member Nadia D’Alò under her DALO alias. This track is more like - did you ever went to a dark and sweaty basement Electro party while in the middle of the floor at 04:20 a yellow purple sprinkled zebraseal named “ZAFRAM“ Mc Schnork wants to sell you liability insurance for a special discount? The 808 is bouncing, accents are placed carefully and harsh but also cute baby demon vocal effects are panning in between all 4 dimensions while the 303 hits you so hard that your legs are shaking? Then it gets really weird when this strange looking Otter from New York in a pink pony costume pops up and takes out the gear of his attache, offering you everything to pass the bat country safely? Well, it’s Philipp Otterbach's “Otter Space Mix” which put this special flavour on top.

Sound Synthesis - Memory Sequence [Distorted Sensory Perception - DSP003]

DSP welcomes back the prolific one-man-machine from Malta… Keith Farrugia AKA Sound Synthesis for the first solo EP on the imprint. ‘Memory Sequence’ Depicts a cerebral journey into the depths of cognitive recall.

The record opens with ‘Electric Flux’. Acidic Electro reminiscent of the cold futurism of early Detroit Electro with an informed shift in perspective that pushes things further forward.

The A-side concludes with the mysterious, arp laced ‘Melodija’. A heartfelt example of Sound Synthesis’ depth and individualism when it comes to the deeper side of Electro.

‘A3B0L3’ takes things in a more playful direction on the flip. Smooth chords, soulful drum programming and lysergic elements of Keith’s futuristic funk leave a vivid impression on the soul.

The final statement on the record ‘Melody Chords’ Takes us on a ride of self-reflection, emotional depth and melodic distinction. Leaving the mind in a state of profound clarity upon it's resolve.
