Lucid Paradise - Tonight

'All This Trouble' is the first track to land from Jonny Drop’s 2nd album "The Only Sound".  Warm, hazy Jazz is covered by a patchwork of percussion and beats that clearly display his sensibilities as a drummer. This early taste of the new album, due in June, is one of the closest heir’s to the "Sub Plot" crown, but confidently points at the producer’s development, which will be clearly heard in his new material. 

Jonny Drop’s debut, "Sub Plot", was the very first album release on the fledgling Albert’s Favourites label at the beginning of 2016. The initial offering, a 7” of album favourites 'Mind Field' and 'This Is The One' had quickly been picked up on by the good people at BBC Radio 6 Music as well as some of Drop’s personal heroes including Kenny Dope, Mr. Thing and Nightmares On Wax. But when the infectious rhythms and warm production of the beat tape landed, its impact was greater than anyone at the label could have hoped. 

Although Jonny never stopped producing beats in the following years, he was also kept busy as a drummer, playing live for Andrew Ashong, The Bongolian and Connie Constance, whose Boring Connie EP he also laid down beats for. Then in early 2018 his band The Expansions delivered their celebrated "Murmuration" LP. All the while, with the support of his label family, Drop had been evolving his solo sound too.

"The Only Sound sees a huge progression in my writing direction, as I collaborated with multiple vocalists and musicians, instead of the usual 'one-man band' approach. The development of these processes make this LP a steady departure from the beat-tape influence of my past releases, and hopefully, showcase the more original sound I've been working to achieve over the past few years."

Michele Manzo - Burning Chrome

Michele Manzo - musician and producer who boasts international collaborations with Omar Lye-Fook, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Declaime - is the man behind the second release of Angis Music, italian label curated by DJ Samuele Pagliai. The EP presents 3 different scenarios resulting from a spontaneous live session, which reflects the multiple influences and symphonic approach of an artist with various styles. This work, inspired by the science fiction novels of William Gibson - godfather of the cyberpunk genre - opens with the song “Burning Chrome”, conceived as a nighttime escape taking you at lightening speed through the alleys of a city that is galaxies away. Continuing on to the B side we have “Chiba City Park”, where the broken beat and abstract harmonies create an ambience similar to that of those in Neuromancer. Finally, “Nebula’s Grace” is a cosmic jam where time slowly floats away in dub echoes and disappears into the depth of space.

Far Out Recordings is delighted to present the debut single from transatlantic pop retroists Limoncello.

In 2017, NYC producer/guitarist Rich Bennett and Paris based Italian Argentine singer/songwriter Mari Rosa started sharing tunes with each other across the pond. Basking in the sounds of Lô Borges, Elis Regina, Steely Dan, and a playlist of early 80s roller rink disco, felt like a form of solace amidst the tense and changing culture around the world. It wasn’t long before the pair decided to write and record some tunes of their own, which in their own words created “a sound that will make you want to lace up your rollerskates”

Sung in Portuguese, the breezy lounge-funk stepper ‘Music Aqui’ cooks up blissful Brazilian beach boogie vibes, and the Spanish sung post-disco love jam ‘Com Tu Amor’ feels uncannily like an early 80s holy grail that’s never been sold on Discogs, it’s difficult to believe it was recorded only last year.

MIMS is delighted to premiere ​"Something Else", by California-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Paul Grant ​‘Something Else’ . Very laid back, hip hop meets jazz guitar vibes. The swing on the backbeat is also most as infectious as the main guitar motif. The first single from his forthcoming full length solo album, ‘​Waves’, "Something Else" is released on all digital platforms this September 10th via DeepMatter Records.

Having released a collaborative album with vocalist Adrienne Indigo titled​ ‘Rebirth’ ​ earlier this year, ‘Waves’ ​sees Paul Grant return to his instrumental roots with fifteen tracks fusing together influences from the worlds of hip hop, jazz and r&b. In ​‘Something Else’ Paul delivers an RnB inspired slice of serenity featuring atmospheric chords, a groove-heavy bass line and Paul’s signature intricate jazz guitarwork.
 
“90’s RnB was the main influence for this song’s production, I simply added some jazz guitar melodies and chords to the arrangement and there it was. ‘Waves’ is my third solo album, and I think it contains my strongest productions yet. In my opinion, the feeling and intentions behind the songs are more focused and more clear than before. I’m thankful to have great contributions from guest artists Amy Ahn (Waves) and Morgan Burrs (Waiting) on two songs. The record was influenced by many artists, but in particular J Dilla was a big inspiration for many of the songs.
 
Paul Grant is a multi instrumentalist / producer from California who has produced, mixed, and mastered three solo albums (and one collaborative album with Adrienne Indigo). He has worked with a range of talented artists, including Kiefer, Braxton Cook, and Emmavie. His productions draw inspiration from jazz, r & b, and hip hop. In addition to production, he also does session guitar work for other artists.
