Martha has become a familiar face within the UK music circuit, a leading figure within the London scene specifically who uses their platform to champion emerging artists and communities from all corners of the world. 

Based in South London, Martha is a presenter, curator, DJ, and sound artist who has become known through her weekly NTS show which is used as a foundation to share her new finds with an incredible knack for being on the pulse of all that is new and exciting within club music and beyond. You will find everything in these shows from UK drill, club, techno, southern US rap, and more. There’s no pigeonholing to Martha’s sound and approach, it’s simply music she is excited by and shares with a clear narrative in mind. 

Alongside the radio show, Martha founded Tempo which is a community of musicians and DJs who run. Kickstarted a few years ago now, Tempo has adapted to new formations over the last 12 months, taking the ethos online through sharing home workouts and soundtracks via their mix series until it’s safe to run together again. 

As huge fans of Martha’s show, we are super excited to have her on board for the 68th installment of our mix series. A fiery edition packing a lot of punch, Martha takes us through new and old records from the likes of Princess Nokia, Anz, Jessy Mitsu, Endgame, LAST JAPAN, Talik, DJ Python, and more.

This recording was taken from our very own Encouraging Numbers party back in July, offering both a bittersweet reminder of the past and an optimistic view towards the future.

Gag Reflex is like a dream. No, better, cause dreams aren't absolutely perfect and don't smell nice. So yeah, she's like... heaven personified! Hyper talented (like, hyper hyper); funny af, v v kind, extremely cute, brave.. the list goes on. this seattle bb works hard for her community, not only by being a lovely friend but also by throwing her transfeminist bloom nights and DJing like a hurricane of perfection for the benefit of the realest ravers and misfits. i've been lucky enough to hang out with her and some of her lovely crew in seattle and felt right at home with them. oh lawd i also smoked some weed there that knocked me out but Odessa was right my by side in the club while i snored with my mouth open, protecting me from outside threats lol! anyway - if you haven't yet, you should listen to her naivety EP 'The Fae' and her track on the naive comp cause you'll get an idea of how much of an incredible artist wer're talking about here (more things to come!). this naivetape is a prime example of why she is so good, mixing raucous rave inspiration with elegant techno, acid of the highest order, electro and some delicious club weirdness for good measure. i just.... i just wished we lived in the same city. but at least i'm lucky enough that we exist at the same time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ that's my consolation prize.

naivetape #58 - Gag Reflex

Picture a drumhead - its membrane stretched taught over a seemingly endless container of energy below. Swirling with dense, palpable and pent up power this hollow goes on forever. Matt DZP (@matt-percic) calmly plumbs these depths on Shell Tape 48, keeping a steady hand and clear head all the way through. 

Devoutly remaining in the low end of town, this week's mix consists of carefully bottled bassweight and gentle but constant pressure - it's a slow burn from tripsy start all the way to it's upper tempo finish. Dubwise mutations, junglist offshots and mind bending dancefloor psychedelia all combine in a heady multi-origin blend that delivers an immediate hit.

Impeccably mixed with clinical skill and taste, "Murky Brews" traces a path from the rave's doors opening to it's smoky sunlit ending. Plant yourself in front of the largest speaker stack you can locate and soak it all up - this is one to get the bassbins firing.
