Kieran Tahir is a British-Pakistani producer and DJ who emigrated from Scotland to Aotearoa at the age of 9. He has previously been involved in the Kerosene Comic Book collective and works closely alongside the elusive Tāmaki based producer Muirs. His music explores the complexities of hybrid identity, merging heavy UK productions and provocative Pakistani pop. Prepare for a no holds barred journey through his club sound.

It’s grime time! Or Is it? Time is an illusion: our naive perception of its flow doesn't correspond to physical reality. Edition number 72 of the Shell Tape series does away with convention, inching a quarter past local don dada Jefferson’s world famous “Grime Time” into uncharted, genre blurring territory. 

The drink, the dance and the bubble are all present in this hour long UK-centric musical education, no doubt about it - but this mix is so much more than a handful of reloads and remixes of Pulse X. Ducking and diving from soulful two step edits, afro-beat tinged hip-hop, closely guarded digital dubplates and, as the title suggests, hefty slabs of grime and UK grooves, Jefferson hoons round our musical clock face ruthlessly - gun fingers never returning to the holster.

Baker Street flips (yes, the saxophone song,) dubbed out disco re-licks and heavyweight bass lines all rip through this hour long masterclass of grime and adjacent genres - Jefferson’s passion for music shining throughout all of it. Bow bow, it’s quarter past grime time!

His production style is something tricky to nail down, but It's safe to say though that his work always manages to hit a certain spot, whilst transcending fads and phases along the way. This mix certainly kicks it, as he goes from house to breaks to phonk to everrrything.

Big A.D. returns to 909 with a playful mix originally pulled together for a Nowadays live stream.

Based in New York City, Andrew Devlin first dabbled with electronic music in 2009 but it wasn’t until 2019 that he fully immersed himself and started working on the tracks you’ll find on ‘Something New’. A man of many interests and projects, Andrew founded the party series The Level Party with DJ Voices and Onkel-S, runs a small business called Devlin’s, is an avid cook and likes to spend time shooting hoops.

Speaking about the mix, Andrew says, “I recorded this mix for a Nowadays live stream early in the pandemic. I was unemployed at the time, and feeling pretty uncertain about the future (like the rest of us). I did luck into a pair of CDJs for home use, though, so I had spent a lot of time just goofing off on those and messing with effects/ weird blends. It felt a bit like when I was first learning how to DJ, trying to mix DJ Shadow into house records. This is kind of the result of that."
