If there’s one record you’ll want to have this summer, it’s Ossie’s ‘That’s a vibe’ EP. The London producer makes his debut on Heist with an irresistible dance record loaded with high-energy UK grooves and a fair nod to classic US house music.

DJ/producer Ossie Aneke a.k.a OSSIE has been releasing music for over a decade, releasing forward-thinking electronic productions on crucial imprints such as Hyperdub, Skepta’s Mas Tiempo, Brownswood and his own Supercali music. His Heist release features 4 tracks that are rich in sound, sampling and vocals and are all filled to the brim with personality. 

The EP kicks off with ‘That’s a vibe’; a shuffling and breezy affair with a quirky, high-pitched vocal and lovely chord chops that all fit together perfectly. The production is immaculate and you can hear Ossie feeling totally comfortable in his sonic space, where he takes the best parts of London and Chicago and blends it into something totally unique. With that catchy melody and vocal, this one is quite earworm. We've been playing this one out a lot, and the reaction from the crowd (and track id requests) are great (as seen in our recent raw cuts set in New York).

“Are you still smiling” ups the tempo and takes us deeper into the London sound, with a riff of pulsating strings, garage drums and a nasty bassline. This track, (which could have easily been on Daphni’s latest album) has everything we like about contemporary electronic music. It’s full of feelgood elements, quirky samples and a groove that will get the even the stiffest hips shaking. 

Ossie is not one to go for the same trick twice, and he’s very well capable of going deep as we can hear on ‘Clay clay’. On this track, we see Ossie pay homage to classic US house music, with minor chords looping over a crunchy diva vocal and a solid house groove. The EP finishes off on a high note with ‘True freedom’: a track full of energy with sampled chords and lots of vocal elements working together to great effect. The percussion programming is clever and full of forward momentum and the bass is so fat it probably won’t fit through club door.  

Ossie delivers an EP that’s unique, catchy and produced with such confidence, that these tracks have already become a staple in our sets. 

Get ready to dive into the sound of Ossie and as always, enjoy the music and play it loud!
