In episode 7 of “CRACKING THE COCONUT” we decided to switch up the tempo with a topic that’s near and dear to our hearts, and a whole lot of fun! With over 13 years combined working in the entertainment industry, we’ve attained priceless experience, learned many lessons and gained countless memories. 

We've worked with top A-list artists like #SelenaGomez, #BTS, and #HER. #Filipino-Americans can be scarce in the entertainment industry -- both in front of the camera and behind. But if it weren't for following our own ambitions, instead of what our families wanted, we wouldn't have found ourselves in the middle of some magical moments.

Episode 7: Surprise, Shawty. We're Not Nurses

As kids, our parents, grandparents, and any elder would tell us universal ideas and pass them off as truths. Some ideas were harmless and are now comical to think about, while others were the mind bombs that completely shifted our perspectives.

Episode 8: Our Childhood Was A Lie

Filipinos have hella traditions. Some have been passed down from generation to generation, and others are innovative created to create a new tradition. Regardless, Filipinos celebrating their Filipinoness through tradition is a beautiful trait about the heritage. From "blessing" our elders, wearing polka dots on NYE, or sending money to our families back home, episode 9 is all about Filipino traditions.

Wow! We made it to the tail end of Season 1. It’s been a fun ride so far cracking these nuts and so we decided to add a twist to our season finale with a little party featuring tequila-POG cocktails, Cali bud and vegan garlic shrimp plates. We pulled random questions (Out of a plastic coconut, of course!) like, “What was the most daring thing you’ve ever done?” and “Is a hot dog a sandwich?”.

In the season premiere of Season 2, we talk all about manifestation. Some of you might be thinking, “WTF is manifestation?!” Manifestation is setting your intentions and bringing your goals to you, and it requires positivity and elevated frequencies. It starts with a thought which then leads to something tangible. Whether it is a new job, a vacation or a financial goal, manifestation is all about putting in energy into something that is already destined to be yours.

It seems like #Filipinos outside of the Philippines are always having to "prove" their Filipinoness to mainland Filipinos. Whether it's speaking a full convo in Tagalog, or being quizzed on geography, #Fil-Ams are constantly being questioned by their own community. It f*cking sucks.

Episode 12 - Why Can't We Just F*cking Get Along?

Are Filipino-Americans only Filipino for the clout? In this episode of #CrackingtheCoconut, Carla and Jasmine dive into their experience working/attending the 29th Pistahan Festival in San Francisco. While they had a great time sharing the special day with fellow Filipinos and extended community, it seems like #Filipinos in the Philippines view Fil-Ams as "clout-chasers" who only claim their "Filipino-ness" when it is convenient for them.

For many Filipino-Americans, it is not easy to have conversations about the serious topics. In fact, sometimes we can be avoidant or passive when it comes to tackling the tough stuff. On this episode, we get down with some comments from the Cracking the Coconut TikTok page.
