For Crack Mix 400, we're celebrating clubs and nightlife culture across the world with a series of archive mixes.

This recording documents a “particularly packed and sweaty one” in September 2018, when local selector Ribeka joined club mainstay Call Super for an intimate rinse out at Glasgow's La Cheetah. Ribeka warms up for the first 90 minutes before Call Super takes over to close.

@delay-grounds could almost be seen to embody the plethora of electronic creativity beaming out of Bristol right now. Ahead of his devastatingly good Lapsus record landing, he’s provided a mix to further demonstrate just how fervent the forever cross-pollinating scene there is at this moment in time. Amongst material from fellow UK upstarts like Metrist, Will Lister and Boulderhead, there’s classics in the form of James Holden’s 10101 and early cuts from Randomer on LIES. There’s futurist club gear in plentiful supply from Karima F and Rhyw, plus a couple of tracks from Delay Ground’s new record for good measure.

“A mixtape of unreleased music and a few collaborations with friends which I thought would be a perfect mix for a Monday listen.”

KMRU, also known as Joseph Kamaru, is a sound artist originally from Nairobi and currently based in Berlin. He explores sound to convey various interpretations in his work, drawing from his listening experiences in Nairobi and beyond and grounded in the discourse of field recording, noise, and sound art.

Working under the guidance of Jasmine Guffund at Berlin’s Universität der Künste (better known as UDK), KMRU looked at waveforms and embarked on a process where he would “write scores from the shapes, gradually turning the scores into raw synth sounds.”
 

Kamaru’s ambient-experimental music has taken him to the Barbican, Berlin Atonal, Présences
électronique, and seen releases on Editions Mego, Subtext, Seil Records.

His new LP ‘Dissolution Grip,’ released on his OFNOT imprint, marks a shift in his approach, blending field recordings with synthesized sounds, hinting at his evolving musical direction.

With all that in mind, we thought we’d ask Kamaru to put us together this week’s mixtape for a Monday… let’s get stuck in.

KMRU - The Ransom Note 'Monday Is OK' Mixtape

I was blessed to play midday Saturday again. Daytime allows so much freedom, but 90 minutes is too short. This is a rerecording of my set. I changed the order of a few tracks, added four more that I wanted to play but didn't have time for, and let the key ending track breathe for its full 15 minutes.

No tracklist this time at least for now, but happy to ID anything.

Fun fact: There are nine different languages in this mix, a personal best =)

experiences during mid summer for an amazing 3 days time.

when Traxx plays for the Cosmic music players and diggers 
he plays much more slower and spacey with different ideas.
when this happens over a long length of time it creates 
reaction and interaction that can be enjoyed in a state of 
mind-body integrated euphoria without thinking about this
