@moma_ready arrived on a wave of acclaim that hasn't at all subsided in the four or so years since his debut. The NYC-based skateboarder and musician runs the Haus of Altr label and also makes ambient, as well as films. He has had particular success producing with AceMo as AceMoMA, such as on April's standout album, A Future. As the title suggests, it took in the dustier end of 90s jungle, rough-edged house and Detroit techno, but turned out something forward-looking. Whatever MoMA Ready does, it comes through a proudly Afrofuturist lens, always with unbridled energy and the ability to make you question everything you thought you knew. 

This week's mix packs an awful lot in. It - of course - eschews the traditional model of a slow build towards a peak-time workout. Instead, the music just goes where MoMA wants, whenever he wants. Even the transitions play second fiddle to the selections, which is fine when the tunes are this good. Some are deep, some are smooth, there are lo-fi bangers and seductive rollers. It's the sound of a DJ going all in without a care in the world.

For our bicentennial Truancy Volume, Pearson Sound takes the reins. Few artists have meant so much to us over the years, and David Kennedy’s music, DJ sets and mixes have been an instrumental pillar to our foundation at Truants. Under his early moniker Ramadanman, he was responsible for timeless dancefloor anthems like “Work Them“, “Glut” and “Don’t Change For Me“, with his gradual transition into Pearson leaving a hotbed of tracks behind in his discography, as well as a much lauded mix for the FabricLive series. His evolution from Ramadanman days to the Pearson Sound we now celebrate is inextricably linked to the transformation of electronic music this decade, bringing techno, breaks, dubstep, house and UK funky into a singular, amorphous arena. Responsible for many of our favourite 12″s, the last ten years has been filled with a page list of memorable club moments and releases.

Truancy Volume 200: Pearson Sound

Ahead of his appearence at Tresor's 313 Movement party at Tangent Galley in Detroit later this month we present a new live mix by cult Chicago DJ, Justin Aulis Long.

Longtime a fan favorite, this recording took place during the witching hours at Interdimensional Transmissions’ Midwest Freaks gathering in Detroit on March 17th 2018.

Within the vast caverns of the smoky room, asymmetrical forms draped from the ceiling. They seemed †o feel confused between being paranormal life form and architecture.

Towers of speakers hovered in the dark corners. Ferociously voicing their titanic presence, while making no apologies. Transmitting various alchemical equations, amalgamated by the selector.
Uncanny lighting provided a psychedelic and mystical atmosphere. Calling attention to themselves, and then quickly vanishing into thin air. 
For many of us mutant kids, this is home.
