JUDDER label presents Judder Compilation #3: a new collection of tracks from bass-oriented music producers

This time, the compilation brings together 16 tracks from producers around the world — both emerging and established — as well as live artists who create music exclusively using hardware.

As always, the release showcases a wide spectrum of electronic bass music, with tempos ranging from 120 to 170 BPM. JUDDER continues to blend diverse approaches to sound and push the boundaries of the genre.

👟Stutter Step is a new music radio show at @radiostudent and movement led by @marka_san7 . He will focus on exploring the footwork juke music that originated from Chicago. In the radio show, we will host local and foreign guest mixes by active producers, we will play old and new products of footwork and juke, as well as related sub-genres, such as jungle and ghettotek. The purpose of the radio show is to bring the phenomenon of this music closer to the local audience and to encourage local producers to send us music, so that together we can spread the love for footwork and give it a local stamp on the map. Creaked Records gear up to issue their latest double vinyl album release from Swiss producer Nic As Well, previously known under the moniker Lemonick...Our pick from the album is ‘Tickler‘. Curating our mix this week is Paris-born Big Dope P, currently one of Europe’s most exciting DJs and producers, known for his signature blend of electro funk, bass/club, ghetto house and rap. He has previously shared the decks with some of the world’s biggest names in dance and rap music, including Basement Jaxx, Kaytranada, Pusha T, Maya Jane Coles, Lil Wayne, and Todd Edwards, just to name a few. 

At the age of 16, Big Dope P co-founded Moveltraxx imprint, one of the most influential labels in dance music, promoting footwork, ghetto house and jersey club since 2007. The label features releases from major electronic mavericks like Paul Johnson and DJ Tameil. Big Dope P’s discography features releases on global labels such as Fool’s Gold, Ed Banger, LuckyMe, Nervous, Ninja Tune, OWSLA and Local Action.

For Select 351, Big Dope P brings us a bass-driven mix of footwork, Chicago ghetto house, ‘80 funk and classic hip-hop tunes from across the UK and US, featuring his original productions such as ‘On Da Flo’.

In 2013, Different Circles launched with Weightless Volume One, a compilation that helped define a new minimalist aesthetic in electronic music. 

Twelve years later and after a six-year pause, the label returns with its tenth release: Ping Volume One.

Like weightless, ping isn’t a genre. It's an approach to anchoring and propelling sound without relying on the steady pulse of a kick drum.

Instead, a single percussive hit — the ping — holds the centre. Dry and high in the mix, or echoing distantly through space, it becomes a temporal anchor. Around it, the rest of the track can undulate, bend, float or collapse.

The term first appeared on Mumdance’s radio show, where playing “the pingy ones” from the Different Circles back catalogue became a running joke. In the Discord community, it evolved into a shared language, with memes, lore and a mascot known as the Ping Devil.

In 2023, Mumdance aired The “Ping Report” a radio show that gathered everything into a coherent moodboard. It included original tracks made by Discord members for the show and set the foundations. From there, more producers began making ping intentionally, and over time, Ping Volume One took shape.

As the idea came into focus, Logos and Mumdance noticed that much of the Different Circles back catalogue, if not explicitly weightless, could now be understood through the lens of ping. It was a sound they had been drawn to long before they had a language to describe it.

Ping Volume One is a document of shared instinct. A collection of tracks connected by feel rather than formula, shaped by years of dialogue between a community of artists and listeners who were drawn to the same sounds & ideas before they had a name.
