When they play together they find a common point that results in a unique journey which combines minimalism and dissonance allied with a constant groove. This 4-hour recording of their set at the RSOberlin in May 2023 represents their joint vision of what they can bring to a dance floor.

For my remix of “Rattlesnake” I used only samples from the original song and added a kick and a subbass. Utilizing a plugin called Life from XLN Audio, it was possible for me to create a lot of different loops out of the stems, selecting the best variations and tried to make a coherent track out of it. 
Regarding my 3D audio approach: the remix is made completely in 7. Order Ambisonics, which makes it possible to play it on other loudspeaker setups as well. I worked with basic panning option and their modulations, with Soundparticles Energy Panner and Density plugin and put the elements in three different instances of the Vienna MIR Pro plugin together. Finally, everything got mixed into a binaural mix, utilizing my binaural virtualization in which I split the Ambisonics soundfield in three parts, Front, Back and Top, apply some directional filtering to help with localisation and boost the frontal and top representation, which is normally quite weak on headphone playback. Also, the IEM FDN Reverb got applied at this stage, to help with a better out of head experience.

RATTLESNAKE (Ioka Binaural Remix)

Boulder, CO - On December 22, Craig Heneveld releases “μMod,” a snappy hypnotic techno track that builds its foundation on a punchy 909 kick and crisp hit hat. The song is led by a
sinister synth arpeggio that snakes around the song, leaving delays of digital dust and reverb in its wake. The track ebbs, flows, and sometimes stretches like it’s pulling apart at its seams

It’s this sonic elongation where the track gets its title, “μMod.” The real μMod is a knob on the Eurorack module Mimephon which provides a modern take on sound copying, echo, and
repeating devices, creating a unique delay effect that also takes on characteristics of vibratro, flanger, and chorus. This combination, when the timing is adjusted with this knob, creates this effect that sounds like light is being sucked into a black hole, where its particles bend into the singularity.

Craig’s musical growth and evolution are unconventional. He takes divergent influences from punk rock and Latin music, and even studied tabla and sarod under some of the world’s more
predominant Indian classical music gurus like famed practitioner Zakir Husain and students of the legendary Ali Akbar Khan.

This delicate art of Indian polyrhythms resonated deeply with Craig, leaving an indelible mark on his sound. These lessons significantly influenced his perception of rhythm and time, building a layer of complexity in his work even though the traditional Indian sounds weren't explicit in his compositions.
