Since the day in 2022 where we partied alongside Allan McConnel and Finn Rees of Close Counters on a balmy summer's day in Naarm/Melbourne's St Kilda, we added them to our mixtape bucket list for a contribution in due time.

If you're not acquainted with their sound already, Close Counters make music for vibrant club dance floors with an expansive catalogue of tunes covering everything from soul, house, broken beat and boogie/disco.

With two albums and numerous original releases that have been featured on BBC Radio, triple j, and iHeart Radio, Al and Finn have gained a cult following of disco descendants. Their ’23 album ‘SOULACOASTA II’ was the Best Electronic Work at Music Victoria Awards last year.

They’ve also achieved the notable honour of an inclusion in the FIFA 23 soundtrack (the final official FIFA™ game) which is the pinnacle and peak of good music recognition, at least for us.

2025年3月4日に惜しくもこの世を去ったレジェンドRoy Ayersのキャリア黄金期と呼ぶ に相応しい70年代前半からのRoy Ayers Ubiquityのギタリストとしてのキャリア、そし て何よりも77年リリースの自身唯一のリーダー作にしてレアグルーヴ史に輝く名盤『リズ ム・オブ・ライフ』の存在で、時代/ジャンルの壁を越えたプロップスを集め続けるリヴィ ング・レジェンド=ジェームズ・メイソン。

2025年7月23日には日本にて『ジェームズ・メイソン “リズム・オブ・ライフ” リヴィジ テッド at Blue Note Tokyo』単独公演、8月14日~17日にイギリスにて開催の『We Out Here Festival』への出演もアナウンスされその活動に注目が集まる中、名盤『リズ ム・オブ・ライフ』の楽曲を3アーティストが新たな生命を吹き込んで再生させるリミッ クスEP『JAMES MASON REMIXES』がアナログ・オンリーのリミテッド・プロダクト としてリリース。

ジャズ~レアグルーヴ・サイドは元より、ロフト~ディープ・ハウスサイド、そして 97年 にMo' WaxからのAttica Bluesによるカヴァーでヒップホップ・サイドからの人気も高 い、パーカッシヴでドライブ感のあるフロア・クラシック「Free」を、原曲の躍動感をジ ャジーでアーバンな2000blackサウンド/グルーヴで再生させるDegoによる「Free - 2000black Remix」。 

ハート・ウォーミングなメロウ・ソウルの名曲「Good Thing 」を、Degoとも交流の深 いYukari BBが、シンセベースも心地よくグルーヴィーなヒップホップ的ビート感覚を巡 らせ、そのメロウな魅力を増幅させ再構築した「Good Thing - Yukari BB Remix」。

そしてSide-Bには、数々のアーティストとのコラボレーションや RMXワーク、そし てGAGLEのアルバム・リリースと、 2025年も素晴らしい作品リリースを展開する DJ Mitsu the Beatsが、名曲「Free」を暖かなエレクトリック・ピアノも巡るパーカッシヴ でグルーヴィーなオリジナル世界で再構築した「 Free -DJ Mitsu the Beats Remix」、 そしてアーバン・メローな名曲「 Mbewe」をメローなファンクネスが脈打つヒップホッ プ的ビート/グルーヴで再生させた「 Mbewe -DJ Mitsu the Beats Remix 」。 

マスタリングをDJ Mitsu the Beatsが手掛けたDJフレンドリーな45回転全4曲入り の12inchプレス。

Amsterdam producer and DJ duo Makèz re-unite with LA vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Life on Planets for their next Classic outing, ‘Give It Life’. The frequent collaborators have made waves together since first track ‘Downstream’ drew the attention of tastemakers like Louie Vega, The Martinez Brothers, and Mr. G, with follow-up track ‘Running From The Noise’ appearing on Makèz’s 2024 EP Midnight Time. The Dutch duo have since found a second home on Luke Solomon’s Classic imprint, with 2025 release ‘Loosen Your Bones’ with London MC Pinty receiving club support from Laurent Garnier, Carl Craig and Jamie Jones. Meanwhile, Life on Planets’ 2025 Defected release with house titan Butch, ‘Get High With You’, has further cemented his status as one of dance music’s most in-demand vocalists. This is one is quite deep, soulful and atmospheric with a few touches of broken beat and a bit of a curveball to finish.
