Bags packed and passport in hand, singer songwriter and heart behind Feeding Fauna, Louise O’Reilly, is departing this week for a stint of writing in Iceland.  But before she goes hands us ‘One’.
 
Fuzzed out bass and 80s inspired drum machines give way for a haunted vocal that simmers above the pulse. Guitars enter at an angle before swirled descending syths sing out: On and on! This is a tale of something misplaced. A moment now gone. And an affirmation of continued motion. Remembering to jump on and forget. 

‘One’ is the follow up to the debut Feeding Fauna single ’50 Million to One’. Both songs were produced with Vinnie Laduce in Byron Bay and mark a shift in style and sound for O’Reilly whose previous work with surf-folk act, Lanway, saw her awarded with the Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship for songwriting.  

Feeding Fauna’s debut album ‘N is for Then’ is planned for release mid year.

I stood side of stage at a festival in France and had my heart blown out by a garage band from San Francisco. They made me want to make people move when I played music. So I started a new band. And when I found a voice memo on my phone a few months later I went straight to Byron Bay and told this chap, Vinnie Laduce, that I had an idea for a new song.  I plugged in my guitar and he pulled out a drum machine and warmed up the moog and then a few hours later we had ‘Ocean’.

Cut forward a few months and I am in Iceland huddled in an ex-fishing shed turned artist studio. There’s a storm outside so it’s a bit too windy to go waltzing ‘round the landscape and, anyway, I came here to work. Artist residencies are great. And intense. And occasionally, a dance break is a welcome reprieve for the collective energies.

I made a film that day when the dance break moment happened in the studio. Thankfully there were some movers and shakers in the shed…it became the film clip.

This is my third single, ‘Ocean’ from my new band, Feeding Fauna.

this song is from the first ever recording session we did in a shed in pascoe vale south with simon o'gorman back in...2006. oh how young we were! we stuck a 58 up in between us and played with pitter-pattering rain on the roof. this was on our first ever 4-song demo tape that we used to get gigs. our friend cas heard it once and really liked it - so here 'tis.
