Lost Innocence - In Memory - Oslo 22-07-2011 SAMPLE

Live recording with viola soloist Rivka Golani. Ms Golani commissioned this Sonata for solo viola for this concert by the Espace Musique Concert Society of Ottawa. The concert took place in St. Andrew's United Church on Wellington Street, Ottawa.

Sonata Fantasia (2001) - Rivka Golani, viola

This piece was composed by Georges Enescu for solo viola with piano accompaniment. I orchestrated it several years ago and it was premiered in November, 2012, by viola soloist Roger Chase with the Western States Honor Orchestra Festival, conducted by Russell Guyver. When orchestrating the piece my intention was to capture a 19th century aesthetic in the flavour of the orchestration, to match that of the piece. I hope you enjoy the orchestration. As Russell said, the orchestra could have used another few rehearsals ... when isn't that the case?

Concertpiece

Peter Amsel studied composition while studying at the University of Ottawa with Steven Gellman. As a student he won the Society of Composer's Authors and Music Publishers Award for Young Composers twice in one year, and went on to write for some truly incredible musicians, including viola soloist Rivka Golani who commissioned a solo sonata which she premiered with the Espace Musique Concert Society.
