In spring of 2020, we were first introduced to the singular sounds of producer, visual artist and filmmaker HAJJ. It was his release for Brothers From Different Mothers that pricked our ears; the cocktail of experimental frameworks, dubstep whispers and dark ambience was something completely his own.

Marking his debut EP, prior to this his tracks had found their way to compilations for Abîme and In Paradisium - the latter a double-sided cassette linked to his Souffrance radio show which is a regular fixture on Lyl Radio. On top of his own productions and radio transmissions, HAJJ is the mind behind Dawn Records who, since 2010, have shared music from Renart, vOPhoniQ, Art Crime and more.

Perfectly suited to soundtrack weird Wednesday, HAJJ offers up a mind-expanding mix of mutating electronics, twisting from ominous soundscapes to leftfield club cuts and dubstep variations.

hlBRIDANITA mix series: HERBARIUM & EXTRABLOOD

3hd and EBM(T) collaboration インフラ INFRA release DJ Paypal's soundtrack "[SOI] Re-Animation" from the audio-visual piece by anime lovers DJ Paypal and Makoto Taniguchi. Crossing cultural and linguistic boundaries the commission was originally performed at Yamamoto Gendai Gallery in Tokyo in 2017.

Based in Berlin and Tokyo, the respective artist and producer were riffing on anime culture with their own life-size character, created by Taniguchi, and accompanied by a soundtrack composed by DJ Paypal. The film and live performance have crossed cultural and linguistic boundaries through sound and animation, offering an insight into music as a universal activity. 

Taniguchi’s work is based on the imagery of Japanese animation tropes, appearing as heartthrobs and idols. Passed down to the artist since his youth in the 80s, the characters are acknowledged as a common, general occurrence within contemporary Japanese society. 

DJ Paypal is one of disco, funk, juke and footwork’s most elusive artists. The Berlin-based producer is affiliated with Chicago’s Teklife crew, Glasgow underground leaders LuckyMe, and most recently, Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint, has built a family through online footwork forums, SoulSeek mining, and countless tracks shared across the globe. He’s been spinning footwork in novel directions ever since, highlighting the genre’s undervalued sense of playfulness in the process.

Club Matryoshka and CTM came together for CTM's 22nd festival edition to revisit the Alpha Lebbeus world, 40 years after we first explored the expansive planet together. With this follow-up collaboration, Club Matryoshka expanded on this unique Minecraft world, together with a story-based gameplay narrative co-developed with artist collective Children of Cyberspace. The six-hour journey was soundtracked by live and DJ sets created by a diverse group of emerging artists from around the globe, curated in a collaborative spirit by Club Matryoshka and CTM.

Founded in 2019, Club Matryoshka is an international virtual venue, home and safe haven to underground and unorthodox music mutants. Based in the Philippines and built in Minecraft, Club Matryoshka was founded and developed by a community of gamers, artists, and musicians. similarobjects, dot.jaime, cavill, ahju$$i, JohnPope, and Maengo69 felt a lack of freedom and acceptance in club scenes, both in Manila and abroad, and sought alternative avenues for sharing their work and finding community. The club opened in July 2019, barely a year before COVID-19 would bring in-person events and nightlife to a halt.
