Whipnotiq

We kick off our 808-month with a sorceress of diverse sounds spanning electronic music and beyond. Sharpening her craft at influential underground parties in LA and passionately building her record collection over the past eight years, Miranda Calzada has shared the stage with techno elite such as Function, Rrose, Cio D'Or, Lucy, Voices from the Lake, Daniel Bell, Carlos Souffront, and Ø [Phase], to name a few. 

She is the purveyor at Neptunian Influence, an electro-focused mix and event series, on which she has featured an expertly chosen artist list containing the likes of 214, James Shinra, DVS NME, Sound Synthesis, Gian, ADAB, Kiernan Laveaux and Sassmouth. 

In 2017 she participated in the second installation of the Walking & Falling DJ mentorship program in Chicago, where she also performed alongside the inimitable Eris Drew. In November 2019 she was invited to DJ at Ellen Allien's 'Vinylism' held at Stellar Remnant’s record shop in DTLA - one of her most cherished gigs to date.

Cocktail d'Amore Music returns from a short hiatus with a new release from Russian producer TMO. The three tracks are tied together by a propensity for heavy rhythm construction and distorted acid lines, executed to great effect. Opening with "Last Moment Jam" , a searing main room projectile, TMO presents what is heavily inspired by early Chicago acid track. For those looking for something on the trippier end, "Drums Jam" provides a low bpm hallucination full of delays. Closing is, "Buchla 909 Jam", a 10 minute slow burn exercise in analog fundamentals for late night fantasies.

For the 19th installment of Signals we welcome Berlin based Electro head,  Lazercat.

Lazercat is a DJ, producer and crazy cat lady. Growing up in Western Canada, she made her own way towards electronic music production while training as a classical violinist. She then began DJing many years later, inspired to take to the turntables after countless hours spent on Berlins infamous dancefloors.

With a penchant for all things overlooked and under-the-radar, Lazercat's sound draws from a variety of sonic and emotional landscapes; from acidic, extraterrestrial electro to neon-drenched 80s synth-funk - and everything in between.  

Lazercat has also been actively co-running the Dreams of Neon party and livestream series in recent years, with regular DJ sets broadcast on the iconic Intergalactic FM.

This mix sees an all vinyl assault of Electro firepower. Heavy hitters throughout.

‘From the sandstorms on deserts, to the wild poor Amazonas with an oasis of hope’ we present Zozo’s little hallelujah. In this hypnotic mix, we are brought around a vibrant market in a far-away land, and get lost in the wilderness of a jungle. It’s a call for meditation and for action. 

Based in Istanbul, but always on the move, Zozo has grown to be one of the most outstandings DJs in her country, and she still works on the constant growth of the national scene by encouraging the flow of artists in and out of Turkey. Outwards, she has a residency in Sameheads, where she hosts ground-breaking acts, and is part of the Lyon-based Macadam Mambo Crew. Never leaving behind the sonic fusion that constitutes her cultural heritage, Zozo is more a sorceress than a DJ. A tireless digger, she evokes hazy images and clear emotions by means of a colorful and powerful selection. Since the very origins, music has had for her many diverse and strong meanings: music as the material to build bridges between communities, as the hand that will dust off our asleep consciousness, a voice that will bring to life the importance of the values and emotions we tend to leave behind in the modern world.
