Good Morning! I have shared folders on a Windows 7 system. Up until this morning, I have been able to access the shared folders without issue. When I try to access the shared Win7 folders from 2 Win 10 systems, I get an error stating "the handle is invalid". I have double checked the shared permissions, NTFS permissions, etc. and nothing has changed. I have updated all systems with the latest windows updates and rebooted all systems. I am able to ping the Win10 PC name and the IP address without issue. I am still receiving the invalid handle error. The windows 7 system has no issues reaching the shared folders of the Win 10 systems. Any ideas on how to correct this issue?


I have encountered the same issue on a Windows 7 system used as a Workgroup server in a small business. Worked yesterday, today all other protocols work except SMB shares. Windows 10 and Windows 7 systems both display the invalid handle error. I have tried everything. It is not hardware specific as I ran a virtual backup of the server on a Datto appliance and the same error occurred. It must be related to a Windows Update?


This solution works only for users running Citrix VDA. Some Windows updates are incompatible with Citrix VDA 7.6.300, causing The handle is an invalid error. To fix this, download the cumulative update VDA 7.6.1000.


I'm trying to create a program that utilises the MiniDumpWriteDump Windows API to dump another process's memory. However, it keeps returning an error saying The handle is invalid. I'm pretty confident in my process handle because I've used the OpenProcess Windows API before, so I think it's how I'm using CreateFileW.


In 90% cases it works fine i.e. when there is some incoming data available on this socket "GetQueuedCompletionStatus" gets unblocked and it has valid data. But sometimes WSARecv call returns with an error and GetLastError() returns 6 which is "invalid handle" error. I'm bit bewildered why it's happening so.


I am attempting to update from V6.08.1055 to V6.09.10300 and when the update is initiated, I get the 0x6 This handle is invalid error. I have rebooted the computer (Dell XPS8940 with Microsoft Windows 11 Pro, 64GB RAM).





I don't know if someone at Avast / Piriform accidentally posted a beta version on the download server before it was ready for wide release, but hopefully this mismatch in version numbers will be fixed in the next day or two and your "0X6: This handle is invalid" error will disappear on its own. I vaguely recall one guy posting with a similar error, and it turned out that on some combination of windows version and other conditions, CH340G or CP2102 (forget which), which are commonly used on clone arduino boards instead of the 16u2 would, without drivers installed, create a COM port, but it would give this error when you attempted to use it. Downloading and installing the appropriate drivers fixed it.


in your first message you wrote that you receive the error message when closing the program... do you discard any panel / control when shutting down your program? From your invalid panel error I would suspect that you first discard your panel and then attempt to use MWSProgressHandle...


I am using version 1.8 (build 11813) on Windows XP Pro. I have been using uTorrent for quite some time, but for some reason today I am getting a rash of "handle is invalid" errors from a few of my torrents I am downloading. I will get the message and if I hit "start" the torrent will continue to download but then give that error again. I haven't seen anything like this before. 2 of the torrents giving the error are from 2 different trackers. Any idea on what may be happening?
