(Jan 2024) - Haha ahhh this song is classic, made a music video for it and everything. This was, as the title mentions, my first time making a song. Now, this song I actually made from scratch. So like, the beat was MADE in GarageBand haha. 

But yeah made it a year ago now and just felt like it had to be on the album somewhere. 

Bitta backstory: I had been writing little lines in my notes and then I heard my brother making a beat next door. I started writing to it but then never got the beat from him. So I said frick it and I made my own beat.

First Time (Bonus Track)

This is one of my favourite songs on the album. 
Heavily inspired by JID’s ‘2007’, I wanted to do something similar where he slowly goes through each year of his life and what happened. 

This was one of the first 3 songs I made. This, Confession, and 1-10 were the first 3. But constantly reworked all of them. 

But yeah this was originally was gonna be called ‘2004’ BUT it was TOO perfect after writing the ending to not call it the albums name and have it as the outro. TOO perfect, I love this song a lot, I love storytelling.

A Uni Deferee (Outro)

This song makes me laugh everytime 😂
A bit of a switch from the previous song … this one is an inside joke that I’ll let you in on rn. 

It’s basically about a friend named ‘Sam’ but Millar and I refer to him as ‘Lens’ because we joke that we only want him to hang out so we have a 3rd person to film Millar and I’s skits. So basically I wanted to make a meme song with autotune to show that. 

Used ‘Shot for me’ instrumental from Drake’s ‘Take Care’ album. 

It was the first time I used Autotune so it was a lot of fun 😆.

This almost was gonna be a ‘bonus track’

Lens (Skit)

This song is extremely personal to me. It’s the 3rd song on the 3-Track run and … as the title infers … it’s the end of the relationship. 

As soon as I heard this beat I KNEEW it was the one haha. But yeah not much else to say, this song is pretty bare bones in the best way.

The end

Extracted directly from ‘my eyes’ on Travis’s Scott’s new album. Just cut it much shorter. I was inspired by travis’ verse, so I pretty much just went and wrote how I was feeling but straight over it. 

This verse, although a bit cringe-ly done, I’m really happy with, means a lot to me. This is also the second track in a 3-track run about a relationship that is about to come to its conclusion in the next song.

It was fun to mess around with voice effects on this one.

My eyes (interlude)

This track is the first of a 3-track run about a relationship. 

VERY inspired by slow Drake, I was pretty much just trying to do that. 

Did I freestyle every lyric? No. 
Thought I’d just get that out the way… haha 

There’s a few portions on the song that are lyrically freestyled like the start, the end and a couple parts in between. 

But one thing that was fully freestyled was the flow. I mumbled some of the stuff that made it on the song, but also mainly just mumbled nothing and then fit lyrics into the flows I was mumbling.

Did you notice the “ay’s” in the background? 👀, that was one thing I was pretty happy about adding the ‘instrumental’ of the song. Added some presence. 

Did this song pretty early in the process and slowly just added more and more. The original concept was just me wanting to see if I could rap on a beat that doesn’t change, cause previously all I’d done was ‘First Time’. So it was a tester … 

I had a lot of these lyrics written in notes for a long time. 

I found this beat and came up with the chorus and then expanded the rest of the lyrical content from there. 

Probably the most conventional song on the album. A proper song.

CONFESSING

The last piece of the album I made, about a week before the album dropped. 

This is heavily inspired from Lil Yachty’s newest song ‘Gimme Da Lite’. I just wanted to make a ‘Christian’ version and see if I could get away with some Autotune hehe. 

As well as narratively introducing some topics further discussed in the next song…

GODS LIGHT

Inspired by NLE Choppa’s Shotta Flow 6 haha. 
I wanted to do something similar, this is one of the first songs I did on here, one that I had started in notes AGES ago. 

1-10, I’m tryna get on 10 🤷‍♂️

1-10 (Intro)

Got up early one day, and felt inspired by Kanye's 'Jesus Is King.' Specifically inspired by how uplifting some of the verses were, praising God. Wanted to make something that uplifted God too. 

So in 1 day, I did 90% of what you're hearing in the final version... it was a very productive day. 

'New Day' is short and quick, something to play at the start of the day, just having fun :) 

'Speaking Through' is my longest song I believe. These songs really formed themselves naturally, especially this one. The intro came completely off the top of my head (what you hear is what I first recorded), and then that concept formed the whole song, all the way to the outro - which was also improvised but re-recorded and slightly changed later.

Speaking Through

New Day

Beat is from Mac Miller's '2009'. I've always adored the vibe this song gave off and so badly wanted to find a beat like it, but I couldn't, so I just used his haha. The closest beat I could fins was "The Ring" beat which is partly why they fit nicely together. 

I didn't play this for her before proposal because it's long and mellow but this is probably the most in depth i've been about our breakup and how it felt and what it did for me personally. I'm really proud of this track. I showed it to her after and she loved it.

23’ (I Guess It’s Good)

Based on the unreleased Kanye song "Throw Money Everywhere." 
I heard it and was like... I wanna do the distorted background voice. It was the first track I made for Hannah. It was at a time when I knew I wanted to make something for the engagement but more so just knew I wanted to make a positive song about her. Because I've only really made sad songs when it comes to our relationship. 

If you didn't catch it, I change to her perspective in the second verse responding to my first verse, then i respond back in the third verse. It was fun cause she constantly would bring up "where's the rinnggggg" hehe.

Forever

This song is about what a ring means to me. What it symbolises. 
I thought it'd be cute to make a song about this topic to play right before proposing. 
Although a lot of my verse reminisces on our friendship before dating, as the song goes on, to me, it all culminates as I dive into the rings meaning to me AND THEN the rings meaning to my mum, dad, and future mother-in-law (in that order). 

It was a perfect end to our boyfriend girlfriend relationship, and a perfect start to the rest of our lives. 

I love you Hannah. So much.
