For the ‘War on Silence’ remixes project @CrissyCriss has enlisted a varied range of producers into the mix for its track list. Whether that’s been long time drum & bass legends like TC, or more underground influencers like Neonlight or @Maluxdnb, there’s been an array of names who have inspired the original album and given it their own signatures. But for its next single, It Is Jev is offered the reins and it’s just as destructive as you might imagine. With the solo project taken from duo @PRFCTMandem which made a name for themselves alongside imprint Korsakov, they’ve slowly moved up the ranks, now It Is Jev hitting his debut with War on Silence through their reckoning of @CrissyCriss, @Maluxdnb and @ErbnDub’s ‘Airlock’. And for an introduction to the label, it’s a stunning debut. One which will be difficult to top.

A chaotic lead filled with speedily flitting drums takes you into its first drop as @ItIsJev begins his takeover of ‘Airlock’. Jumping between thumping breakdowns and even more destructive, revving slabs of bass, Jev pulls you down as he descend into madness. It Is Jev does what he is expert at and that’s cause devastation through their sonics. It’s easy to imagine how this track will impact any club space on detonation and that’s one reason why It Is Jev has become buy a on sight artist even within such a short space of time.

One part of Crissy’s job throughout the years has been to find the very best new artist breaking ground within the world of drum & bass. And from his Radio 1 show until now, he’s still doing the same although this time, it’s using his War on Silence imprint as the platform – still having as much impact as he’s had over the past decade.

‘Rumble’ and its remixes signify one of the final parts of ‘War on Silence’ for 2022. After breaking back out into the drum & bass scene through a stellar collection of parts, featuring some of the genre’s biggest names, a label which lay somewhat dormant during the latter stages of the pandemic has now restated its claim. @Taxman-1 and @DefectionMusic are just another part of this process and they are just more clear examples of the influence of @WarOnSilence’s label boss, @CrissyCriss. With @Heistswap already featuring as a collaborator on the original, both Taxman and Defectiøn help to reignite the flames which were carried by the original ‘War on Silence’ album through two more expert offerings from the pair. 

With slices of jungle breaks and pounding, deeply chiselled bass notes stepping you through each grooving rhythm offered through Taxman’s remix, you’re made instantly aware as to why Taxman is considered a master of his craft. It adds the Taxman style which is a historic part of many discographies from across drum & bass, including figures such as Playaz, Souped Up Records and more. Taxman is master of his craft and his ‘Rumble’ remix is just another demonstration of why Crissy Criss asked him to inspire the new generation of sounds coming through via War on Silence.

The march towards its completion continues as we near the New Year, but War on Silence is back like never before. And with Crissy Criss at the helm, it’s looking to be an even bigger year for both the label boss and his imprint, as well as the artists who are taking War on Silence to new heights.

@WarOnSilence was the launching pad for one of the biggest projects Crissy Criss has delivered in recent years. It was also a moniker which gave the producer full creative control over his work, following a legacy which stretches throughout a decorated DJ career playing at some of the world’s most sought after line up as well as an infamous BBC Radio 1 residency. However it was War on Silence which set another type of benchmark for @CrissyCriss and it solidified him as a producer, with Crissy revealing single after single of dancefloor orientated face melters and more subdued, yet musically captivating liquid records. It was a diverse selection, something which would be followed by a range of remixes from the scene’s most notorious faces. 

‘Lost’ was a track which caught the attention of many tastemakers, and now both @DossaLocuzzed and @DefectionMusic are about to pull the record through their own signature sounds. Viper stalwarts and staple Austrian drum & bass producers Dossa & Locuzzed are first to step up with ‘Lost’, with dreamlike synthesis and emotive crescendos driving alongside its bassline. Their jazz-infused percussion streams through the cut and it further elevates the original from its first release. Then Defection follows suit alongside scuttling garage beats and a deep-house layered bass soundscape. The vocal is chopped in a way which perfectly compliments the composition, giving ‘Lost’ a totally new direction. Known through their own lanes, Defection and Dossa & Locuzzed add to the already eclectic lifespan of ‘Lost’, as well as War on Silence’s ever-growing audience. 

Crissy Criss uses his influence built up through over a decade’s worth of work within the music industry to grow the foundations of War on Silence. Once again offering another stellar package of remixes.

The deep, dark sounds of Malux are next up to make an appearance alongside a huge line up of artists for Crissy Criss’ ‘War on Silence’ remix project and it gives it a darker underbelly as it progresses into its next phase. Already featuring names such as Junk Mail, Neonlight, Defectiøn and more, there isn’t a stone which has gone unturned as the album approaches its final few singles as it nears competition. Beside Defectiøn, Malux produces another incredible addition to the string of releases and highlights why Crissy Criss was such a legendary selector during his time on the drum & bass show at BBC Radio 1, as well as how the curation of this project has caused shockwaves throughout the genre’s community on its announcement.

UK based Malux takes ‘The Ride’ ft. Carasel and moves it layer by layer through his unforgiving overtones. The track crackles through brooding LFOs and it packs a punch with every layer of crackling bass. It’s the type of cut which will slice through speaker stacks as it detonates on impact and its proves that Malux is here to stay in 2024. Following in quick succession is Defectiøn, who keeps the original’s ominous feel but steps it up a gear through freefalling atmospherics and snipped up patches of its vocal sample. Single after single, Crissy Criss has been ensuring that both fans and the wider realm of drum & bass are ready to receive his debut LP in its final form. It’s his most important work to date and this is no small feat for an artist who made a name for himself decades prior to his first album. Crissy Criss’ history stretches from his time on Radio 1 as their leading drum & bass tastemaker, through to launching his very own label earlier last year. And as a genre, drum & bass is something which Crissy Criss is well versed in, having stepped up behind the decks at the tender age of five, mentored by the imperative DJ and producer Kenny Ken.
 
‘War on Silence’, titled after the label he launched in 2018, personifies Crissy Criss as a selector, drawing from a huge array of collaborators. Title-track ‘War on Silence’ alongside Teddy Killerz, as well as ‘Launch’ featuring Inja, ‘Right Now’ with multi-faceted outfit Orange Hill and Nature, ‘Malfunction’ with the help of dubstep pioneer Funtcase and the collaboration ‘Rumble’ with underground connoisseur Heist gave fans an intriguing insight in the lead up to its release.

And as a genre, drum & bass is something which Crissy Criss is well versed in, having stepped up behind the decks at the tender age of five, mentored by the imperative DJ and producer Kenny Ken.
 
‘War on Silence’, titled after the label he launched in 2018, personifies Crissy Criss as a selector, drawing from a huge array of collaborators. Title-track ‘War on Silence’ alongside @TeddyKillerz, as well as ‘Launch’ featuring @Injamusic, ‘Right Now’ with multi-faceted outfit @OrangeHillMusic and @Nature-Ellis, ‘Malfunction’ with the help of dubstep pioneer @FuntcaseUK and the collaboration ‘Rumble’ with underground connoisseur @Heist gave fans an intriguing insight in the lead up to its release.
 
‘Real’, produced with trap-duo @WeWideAwake, has dominated the radio airwaves, becoming a favourite on Radio 1, reaching number two on the BBC Radio 1 Dance Chart, supported by @Annie-Mac-Presents and titled as a ‘Record of the Week’ on @Mistajam’s BBC Radio 1Xtra show. There’s also a host of new material debuted throughout ‘War on Silence’. Bristolian based MC @Carasel joins Crissy for ‘The Ride’, veteran @MC-Spyda is drawn for through ‘Global Riddim’ with @Upgrade_Productions, whilst vocalist @iamKarlWilliams helps deliver emotive roller ‘Live & Stream’ and the glitchy, punching sounds of ‘Lost’. Deliveries such as ‘Breathe’ with Dan Moss (@corsicans1) and ‘Kiss the Sky’ alongside @5572music continue the more understated, yet still impactful records which Crissy has used to create such as versatile LP. And having already revealed ‘Airlock’, where Crissy returns to his teamwork with @Maluxdnb and @ErbnDub, the trio come together again for ‘Spark Plug’ and ‘Curse’. 

Standalone tracks ‘Bad Boy’ and ‘Show Me’ prove the brute force of Crissy’s production; not only does the LP showcase his extensive reach throughout the drum & bass community, pulling some of its most notable figures, but also how imperative his own production has become. Crissy Criss has gone from radio trend setter to releasing one of the most hotly anticipated dance music albums of 2019. This highlights his longevity and commitment to a genre which was nurtured by his love for drum & bass. Something which shines through each track on the album.
