The Drums of War

I wanted to portray this imagery: 10 yr old boy/girl wandering around the garden, playing outside, perhaps flying a balloon etc. Wanders into house where the child see the laptop (Mac, in this case) belonging to the parent(s). Child turns on the computer and then he/she experiences the 'wonder' of the tech world (and this product in particular). Thereafter, the parent walks into the room whereupon the child quickly closes the laptop (or shuts down computer), abruptly ending the scene and the child continues to explore around the home...

Curiosity - my theme for a corporate tech company...

This is a rework of the original by Hans Zimmer. While writing the piece I envisaged three stages: 1) Exploration; 2) Journey; 3) Discovery. In particular, I imagined following a film character from their 'early days' through their 'journey' to their final destination/discovery.

I used the solo clarinet to introduce the mood and phrasing. Then I used the the piccolo and 'busy' strings to convey a carefree, relaxed atmosphere, indicative of a child's gay youth. Then I introduced the marimba, accentuated various beats of the bar and coupled the strings (plus part of the choir stem) to allow the listener to feel as though they are on a journey, perhaps feeling anxious and trepidatious. Finally, I bring the piece into standard time, build on the character's 'journey' with continued use of the marimba and introduce the original horns and cellos to accentuate the 'discovery'. Here, I hope the listener feels the journey was worth it.

I had transformers and similar contemporary films (godzilla etc.) in mind while writing this. Especially where the deep electronic bass is concerned. Enjoy!

Darkside

A track I recorded a while back; I remember that it took me ages to get the lead down in one take, hence I settled for the off timing at the beginning. Nonetheless, I quite like the lead as it is one of the only tracks for which I actually composed the lead in its entirety, without any improv.

Originally composed during a jam session and developed further at home. I'm hoping for some lyrics at some point, then I'll tidy up the timing and the final bars etc.

My first shot at vocals! Make sure you listen to the entire song as it changes quite dramatically (and you shouldn't miss out on my harmonies; I'm super-proud)!

Ceremony

I have been meaning to record for a while now, years in fact, but have never got round to it. Well, I have begun! I like to improvise; blues and rock and roll on guitar and piano. I also write; classical, movie scores, ambient - quite a variety, really. I would welcome any comments on my tracks and I'd be happy to collaborate. I am especially looking for a great female vocalist who is equally creative.  Enjoy the tracks... :)
