Geoff Kirkwood is an artist for the people - not so concerned with image, status or even legacy he’s a creative who is as comfortable writing or presenting experimental symphonies and Audio Visual orchestral performances as he is delivering raucous kinetic techno to sweaty dance floors.

Via his Man Power alias, Geoff has since gone on to show the complete picture of his sonic breadth via output for the likes of DFA, SKINT, Hivern Discs and his self-helmed Me Me Me imprint. Not just satisfied with making music, his acclaimed Us & Them parties have been reversing the grubby trends of club-night promotion, ditching advance tickets and corporate mentality in place for a focus on regional talent regardless of profile. 

Recorded live in Newcastle while opening for Leftfield's tour earlier this month, this DMY mix shows Man Power's selector skills at their very best. Spanning over two hours in length, strap in for a real journey from start to finish.

DJ Screendoor, aka Justin Grall, delivers OFR122. Now Portland based, Justin began DJing in Milwaukee in 1996, cutting his teeth on the Midwest rave circuit in Chicago, Minneapolis, Madison, etc. A veteran practitioner with a DIY sound system sensibility, and the versatility to broadcast for a range of atmospheres, venues, crowds, and moments. The first couple minutes of this mix are a great contextualization of Screendoor's trajectory. BeatsInSpace-02.16.16 Part1 with Man Power

I put together some 90s-trip-hop-inspired downtempo tracks that I feel captures the meditative and melancholy reality of winter alone, mixed with the upbeat optimism of better springs to come. 

Part of what I was channeling in this mix are the dub-laced sounds I’ll be exploring in the parks of DC this spring, where I plan to make playing records outdoors a semi-weekly reality. More to come on that :) 

I titled the mix “a time to break the silence” in honor of MLK’s famous anti-war speech that seems about as relevant today as it did in 1967. While I don’t claim this mix to be any sort of political statement beyond that, the name also speaks to the universal need to escape to some pleasant sounds during times of global and personal anxiety. I hope you find some peace in it.
