This demo track is the result of experimenting with my new recording setup. I have integrated SooperLooper and a Yamaha MIDI foot controller into my setup. This will give me more flexibility in sound creation and enables hands-free operation of my DAW and plugins, which will be needed when I am taking Crows Labyrinth music on the road. Playing this music live is something that I have been dreaming of for years. I hope this will happen someday in the future.

Since my last work was released over a year ago, I felt I had to upload this demo to give you an idea of the ideas that have been going through my mind in the past few months. And to wet your appetite for more of course.  ;)

As usual, the track is played and recorded in one single take.

Crows Labyrinth returns with a new EP, this year's second release. The three tracks span nearly 20 minutes and should please anyone that loves improvised fretless bass playing in an ambient setting.

This EP covers the lighter, more melodic aspect of Crows Labyrinth's musical output. If you liked the last two tracks of his debut album "Travels", then you'll be in for a treat.

Consolation

This is the first improvisation that I recorded with MainStage 3. I am making heavy use of Turnado; an effects plugin developed by Sugar Bytes.

All sounds and effects that you hear are created randomly on the spot and used as the source for my improvisation. The only instrument used is a 5-string electric bass guitar. Yes, I'm not kidding. It's only a bass guitar that you are hearing here.

Every composition was improvised in one take with exception of track 3 which has a few overdubs and track 6.

About the "Travels" album:
What started as an experiment in December 2011 turned out to become a real project that resulted in a full album. The experiment was simple but challenging: try to create ambient soundscapes by exclusively using bass guitars. As an extra challenge, every track should be recorded as one take, one flow of sound, one improvisation.

The result is six long tracks, six sonic adventures in which the listener can get lost and discover new details and nuances with every spin. Only the track “Below” is an exception to this pattern. This track is a solo bass piece that was written more than ten years ago. Somehow the vibe of this piece of music fits perfectly on this album and also functions as an interlude to the final track of the album, “Heliograph”, which is a bit brighter in sound color than the other tracks on the album.

This minimal ambient felt piano improvisation is a departure from my bass-guitar-only soundscapes. It was something I wanted to try for a long time. You might hear some Brian Eno influences in here.
