In Memory:
José Padilla (December 4, 1955 – October 18, 2020) 
 
I remember him as a sensitive, complex artist full of contradictions, and I am very grateful to have walked a part of his musical journey with him.

If one wishes to honor José, the best way to do so is at his favorite beach, Aguas Blancas, with a good glass of wine and a toast to his great musical legacy.We´re all just walking each other home.

Long before Berlin based producer Chris Zippel moved to the island and became friends with the musician, Bahram's Chill Out Albums “Sufi Safir” and “Sufiyan” in collaboration with the artist Mashti had a huge impact on him. 
Their co-creation on the track SANDS features Bahrams unique way of singing and playing his trademark 72-string instrument, the Santur;

Combined with the productions skills of veteran producer Chris the track comes in a tempo of 113 Bpm in different mixes and dub versions.

Chris Zippel - SoundDeluxe Festival Mix

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Marmion’s seminal classic Schöneberg, Superstition Records are releasing a new 21-track collection of the best remixes over the last three decades, including two brand new versions from DJ T. and Chris Zippel. 

If there were to be a compilation celebrating the golden era of European techno, Schöneberg would arguably be the opening track. The most famous cut that came out of Mijk van Dijk and Marcos López’s project Marmion, Schöneberg is perhaps the purest form of what the clubs and raves of Berlin sounded like in the early 90s, and stands as one of the most revered and fondly remembered tracks of all time. 

Mijk van Djik and Marcos Lopez formed Marmion after meeting while studying at the FU Berlin, and began Djing together at clubs across the city. It was from their sets that the seed for  Schöneberg was sown, as they tried to find a balance between the techno and trance sounds that dominated the clubs. It was an era ripe for experimentation, and for cross-pollination between genres, as van Djik recalls: "Coldcut was doing pop, Kevin Saunderson was playing up and down all the floors, everything fit. I didn't feel like I had to limit myself or focus on one style”.

Schöneberg was recorded in a single session, and though they returned to it several times afterwards, they never felt they improved on that first creative burst. Released as part of the Berlin E.P. back in 1993, it was heavily championed by influential figures like Tony De Vit and became one of the defining anthems of the 90s. 

Over the years it has been remixed a huge number of times, by a wide range of artists. Now, to celebrate 30 years since its original release, Superstition have collected the best of the remixes – from artists like DJ Hell, John Acquaviva Remix, Der Dritte Raum, Tim Engelhart and Donnacha Costello – presented here with two brand new remixes from DJ. T and Chris Zippel, both of whom do a sterling job of putting their own unique spin one this stone-cold classic.

Chris Zippel | Afrika Burn 2023 | The Boombox Stage

An artist who has spent his entire adult life working in the electronic music industry, Chris Zippel has been at the sharp end of the underground dance scene since the age of 15. Having worked with such illustrious stars as Robbie Williams, The Pet Shop Boys and Norah Jones, the Berlin-based artist has been a regular across some of dance music's esteemed imprints. His work for Ubersee Music, Elektrolux, Allisum and GMJ & Matter's Meanwhile Horizons, has given Chris a highly respected place at dance music's top table, as he now makes his Particles debut.

"Glossy" is an immaculately engineered offering that sparkles with progressive splendour. Full of percussive vibrancy and swung, head-shaking groove, a smooth bassline pattern adds subtle intensity to proceedings. Before long, a swathe of complementary melodic components make their play as cadenced plucks provide dancefloor character and a compelling, ceaseless energy. Through shaker pattern, well-placed clap and snare fills and a rising club-friendly pace, "Glossy" is a masterfully produced affair that is certain to find favour with DJs across the world.

Simos Tagias has played a significant part in Proton history with 30 production credits split across its labels. The "Airlock" and "Audacity" EPs in 2017 and 2018 saw the Greek artist chart a serene path through the Proton Music catalogue, as have a clutch of remixes for the likes of Dimuth K, LADS and GMJ. Similarly, the "Restricted Area" and "Drunk State" original tracks made their mark on Particles in 2014 before reworkings of Antrim and James Monro in 2017. Further remixes of Gaston Ponte and Tongue & Groove lit up the second half of 2022 and the early part of 2023 as Simos Tagias now returns to Particles for a seventh remix on the label.

Reworking "Glossy" with typically impressive flair, the core themes of the original form the basis for a new rhythmic pattern to revolve around a heavy beat and steady bassline sequence. An atmospheric vocal cut, drenched in delay adds atmosphere aplenty as trademark pads and enthralling chord progressions create multi-faceted layers of additional production. Building through a gloriously evocative breakdown, the second half blossoms into another dancefloor gem as a metrical synth pattern creates an imaginative and effortless remix.

Shining brightly with a "Glossy" and deftly produced original work, Chris Zippel is a welcome addition to the Particles roster.

Chris Zippel counts among the most prolific ambient/downtempo artists of the present time… production work with Artists like the Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, Ich und Ich, Snap and just lately Jose Padilla (with whom he just finished on top two remixes for the american Singer Norah Jones), speaks volumes.

His latest original single effort "Still Love", featuring the stand out voice of scandinavian songstress Sophie Tusnelda, creates a deep, unique vibe fuelled by the genuine Zippel trademark sound of course. "Sophie writes those kind of lyrics that come very close to my imagination of perfect melancholy" Chris says - and puts on smile.  

The silky original version of "Still Love" comes alongside three tantalizing remixes on this debut EP for Mole Listening Pearls.  
The Klangstein & Chris Zippel mix adds quite a vital dose of bass heavy downtempo groove to the sensual original - meanwhile, both the Aiora In Dub mix as well as the Chris Zippel & Dimitris Giakoumakis mix aim clearly at the adult dancefloors around the globe.
All that a tasty precursor to the upcoming Chris Zippel album... which incorporates an intense amount of inspiration that the vivid producer has soaked up in & around his new homebase, the white island of Ibiza, throughout the course of the last three years.
