Ugasanie knows for his freezing desolate soundscapes is back with a new album taking us even further north to explore the concept of the unusual and mysterious phenomenon known as arctic hysteria (also known as menerik and the call of the North Star). It manifests itself only in the polar night, and only when the northern lights shine. Man, as if under hypnosis journeys north. In this state of trance he is almost impossible to stop, he becomes aggressive, sings a song, mumbles, experience hallucinations and persistently continues towards the polar star. It is not uncommon that these people end up freezing or starving to death. 

In track 5 the voice belongs to an old yakutish man. The recording was made during an attack of polar hysteria. This field recording was recorded in a Yakutia group of researchers led by Eduard Alekseev in the 60s.

Two weeks you've been scouring the arctic sea. No sun since you reached the north, the dark water a constant fractured mirror that meets the universe above and pulls you into its black fold. Everything points to "it" resting beneath the ice, in a slumber of centuries. 

Three weeks, now on land, you're getting close. Down here beneath the ice you feel disconnected from the world, like you are leaving the present as you spelunk into the past. You snap another glow stick and throw it down the ice shaft, the light strobes off crystalline walls as it reveals an ancient structure below. The Arctic Gates.

Beyond the Ghost returns with an album ripe with film-like ambience and sonic details from abandoned cityscapes.

You get trapped in the loop of time and you'll get spat out into a world molded by your own thoughts, purgatory. The skyscrapers cast shadows so deep that the flickering neon lights strobe your tired movements. You must have walked these streets a thousand times before, searching for someone, anyone. The cold wind hits your smooth face, it should have been bearded by now, but time is glitched out here. Everything is frozen, but you keep moving, chasing your own shadow.

Recommended for fans of foggy soundscapes, acoustic layering and Silent Hill atmospheres.
