Cities Last Broadcast presents us his second solo album on Cryo Chamber, The Umbra Report. A dark and dreamy journey.

Is it a depression, a séance, or an exorcism? Whatever it is, every nuance of it is thoroughly recorded and the result is terrifying yet oddly soothing. The tape machine is constantly hissing, every piece of machinery is making ominous noises, and something sings along. Pär Boström shows us again that he is a unique creator of sound design and paranormal electronics.

The old bard sat muttering by the hearth in the creaky wooden tavern. His table a scatter of maps, aged leather-bound books and unravelled scrolls lit only by the flicker of candlelight and occasional fizz of embers when drawing on his pipe.

Once a chronicler to the kings of old and trusted advisor in the great war, his grey, ragged demeanour concealed a regal past of breaking fast at the finest tables across the land.

The second age of the machines had taken its toll, fracturing once great empires to but a tribal fight for dominion and a race to find the firestone, for the prophecy was said to say that he who yieldeth the stone, ruleth the land and to him the machines shall answer.

Mages of fire led armies of towering machines across the land in search of the stone, burning anything and everything in their path. Cities crumbled, settlements were burnt and displaced citizens all now looked to the rising sun for the next age to begin.

And the legends, the truths and answers all now sat with the bard, for he had discovered a secret code hidden within the ancient texts and stories of old that would lead to the firestone. A nod to the barkeep furnished him with another tankard of the finest mead as he continued to decipher the code.

Ugasanie paints us a grim, cold and bleak landscape of dark ambient with this chilling album from the heart of Belarus. Careful layering of subtle pads with the frosty overlays of field recordings makes for a truly special soundscape that speaks to the core of unsheltered humanity.

Soothing, sleepy atmospheres that makes time grind to a halt. Warm distant pianos, strings and careful noise layering on a dark atmospheric backdrop creates a sense of being trapped in a labyrinth of gargantuan stone buildings that reach endlessly for the horizon.

Recorded a layered, a.m. acoustic guitar loop into Ableton. Fed that thru the mackie 1202 (just a bit of delay and reverb on the sends) and then to the morphagene, which I am only starting to really understand. Then sent it thru the Mimeophon and Qpass (smilepass mode). Added a bit of movement via Maths then back to Ableton.

Lastly, played some bass thru the Roland RE-301, which is the best of the space echos! That's about it.

Simon, Pär and Robert are back together again after their last album Onyx. 

Echo explores mankind's weakness to self destruction. As nature is cyclical so is man's will to destroy. Like a Moth drawn to pulsating light, the painful histories of the past echo with terrifying glee. 

Rumbling drone hits your chest, a smooth contour of bass stroking a distant piano. Subdued humming flows out of Pär's nightly studio into the cold Swedish winter. Across the horizon Robert's angelic choirs boom. The smell of burnt circuits as he cranks his distortion to the melting point within the deep woods of Pennsylvania.

Red Moon is Phonotheks second album on Cryo Chamber, continuing the theme of the inevitable death of our planet. 

A sad lonely trumpet echoes between ruined apartment complexes. The ground is dry and dusty, nothing grows here. Where once laughter of children lingered, now only the creak of broken swings remain. The earth is dying. The chosen got on the ships, but not you. 

Red Moon explores a world in flames through use of atonal instrumentation and layered atmospherics. Recorded in Georgia (Europe) it brings the sound of the old world to life as it shines light on the new and dying one.

The walls croak as you find your balance in the swaying research ship. A week in this storm is enough to make any mans stomach turn, but today you enter the depths of the ocean. You slap some pills into your food hole and climb to deck, the bathyscaphe stands ready. 

You're 10 hours deep into the ocean when the power goes out. What the hell is going on up there? The darkness outside is thick, snake-like shadows worm around the vessel. Your trembling hand pushes down on the radio transmitter button, it's dead.

Manipulating the orders of chance and whimsy they collect our thoughts and steer us through the Illusion. The weave of "reality" grows thin with this release as it explores what lies beyond even the manifold spires of the ancient city as well as the fractured memories of every swayed traveller. 
Atrium Carceri returns with a stunningly detailed album and yet again propels the genre forward into uncharted territory.
