Stuck between the Houston growing influence, West Coast G-funk overwhelming imprint, Memphis managed to erect its own identity made of pimp narrative, dynamic flows switches and sometimes organic sometimes dark synths, devilish harmonies.
This mix tried to state the burgeoning Memphis rap throughout the 1990s and a few tracks from its current legacy.

9. I Love Being With You - elijah who

In Hour 2 we hand over to Celestial Trax following the release of his debut album 'Nothing Is Real' out now on PTP. The New York based producer describes his album as a departure not only in sound but also geographically and spiritually from his previous output, having found an increased interest in mysticism and esotericism. In beginning 'Nothing Is Real,' he had reached the point of creative purge, deleting almost all samples, sample packs, and software synths. Fueled by ideas of rebirth and true self-projection, he amassed a library of field recordings from New York City, plus samples from his own cassettes, vinyl, and Youtube search history - utilizing every sound source he could come across in his studio whilst trying to spend as little time as possible on the computer screen, which has paid off judging by the reviews. He had this to say about his mix;
"An hour of deep space exploration, with nods to the art of spoken word and the avant-garde. Recorded using my live set up somewhere in Finland on a cold day in October. "

Kampire is a core member of Kampala's Nyege Nyege collective. She's one of East Africa's most exciting young DJs, travelling outside Uganda to play festivals in Burkina Faso and Democratic Republic Of Congo. Her sets of bass-heavy music are inspired by her upbringing in a mining town along Zambia's copper belt, where she listened to Congolese music and African pop.
