This is an interesting one; I'm a big fan of Be Careful ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86zPzBK9y_E ), Yuzo Koshiro's contribution to the 1992 doujin compilation Techno, Trance and Torment Music #1 ( https://vgmdb.net/album/9092 ), since I first heard it, and at some point the urge to rinse a sample of it something worked its way into my brain. Where it sat for bloody ages because beyond the initial sampling + edits to the sample, I had no idea what to do with it. I returned to it this week after hitting a dead end with a few other tracks on my backburner, and this flowed out of me.

I initially planned to deepen the arrangement with additional melody lines and some scratching, but I once again ran into a wall of no ideas and had absolutely no desire to once again spend up to 30-60 minutes rifling through my sample library trying to find loops/oneshots that fit what I wanted (I've done far too much of that lately). Difference is this time, I felt what I had was strong enough on its own merits as a good old fashioned beat loop- it's definitely repetitive/"minimal", but there's enough variance in there to stop it from being boring. I'm pretty happy with it- partially that's down to the strength of the original samples- and I always was a little neurotic over the fact that my hip hop beatwork had "too much" going on compared to a lot of the instrumental hip hop I really like, so doing something closer to that is Cleansing for the soul. Unfortunately one of the loops' timing resulted in a short pause of silence when changing notes, but hey ho, nothing's perfect.

Shoutout to the five other people who will appreciate the additional reference to One of the Finest Pieces of Music Composed For A Videogame ( https://youtu.be/J60wY0XULss?si=45p0OwzQUevyJiuI&t=128 ) (a statement that is only half a joke- I genuinely like this very silly, deliberately over the top song) at the start of the track/the track title, by the way. Y'all are the real ones.

Also, here's the cover art for 103 Works #11. That's something else I hate doing; spending upwards of 30-60 minutes trying to decide on a suitible photo to use for the cover art. It has to Match The Vibe or relate to the music in some way, after all.
