The Cross

The church needs to come back to Jesus’ definition of Christianity. He defined it clearly in Matt 16:24. Jesus spoke about 3 things and then He accomplished all 3 things! We can not define it any other way and we need to experience the same 3 things in order to walk a victorious Christian life.

The gospel of Christ does not promise riches or prosperity to anyone. God can prosper you but it is not a promise. There is no shame in being poor and there is no problem with being rich if money is not our God. Isn’t it interesting that not one of the witnesses of faith in Hebrew 11 is linked to money!

Do we know that divorce causes people to live in adultery? Do we know the divorce was never in the heart of God for His people?

Suffering: Why do Christians struggle to accept that suffering is part of the normal Christian life? 
Death:  Death is a breaking process in us as we die to our own desires and allow Christ to be formed in us. The Christian life is an exchange - you die to your old life in order for a newness of life (Christ’s life) to take hold of you. 
Resurrection: Resurrection life is the product of death, there can be no life without death. Our eyes must always be on the end product, we suffer and die in order to receive His Life.

We can’t live a holy life by ourselves, it’s Christ in us that gives us the ability. The cross was the chastisement of God on Jesus for us and our salvation. Therefore the cross we have to take is the chastisement of God upon us in order to walk a holy and victorious life. The cross is the only way to deal with sin.

The works of the flesh can not be attributed to the presence of demons in the life of Christians. It is clear that the flesh and the spirit are at war. Leaven in the Bible represents false teachings that draw us away from the sound doctrine of Christ. We have to preserve the right spirit of the gospel and beware of the many winds of doctrines. Wherever there is a lack of the preaching of the cross, there exists the danger of false teachings or leaven creeping in.

Christianity has become easy, it has become a comfortable, complacent lifestyle. However when we read the words of Jesus, He was clear that the gate was narrow and the way was difficult!  Christians don’t want to be challenged in today’s world, yet it’s clear that taking the cross was not advice from Jesus. It was a call to walk through that narrow gate and on that difficult road in order to carry the life of Christ.

The plan and will of God for every Christian is very clear, it’s a call to deny himself, to take up his cross and to follow Jesus. Many times Christians don’t want to accept to take their cross and in order to justify their state, they oppose the truth and become enemies of people who are willing to follow Jesus the way He instructed us to.

It is not natural for a man to forgive someone who has wronged him. Sadly many Christians struggle to forgive, they remain bound by unforgiveness for years and are unable to grow.  But the spiritual Christian denies his right to hold on to unforgiveness, he is quick to forgive and it’s a joy for him because he feels that he is growing as he denies his rights.
