I finally got the spare time to put together a mix of all my summer tunes plus some old favs. Heaps of Dubstep which I haven't played in ages, even threw on some psy trance for a giggle plus some of my fav DnB tracks at the moment. ctoafn Autumn 2014 Mash Up Mix Up (Dub_DnB_Psy)

Just found this old mix from 2008, I'm fairly sure its not been uploaded before and its full of some great tunes whilst early Dubstep was in its prime and considering the state I was in bloody impressive mixing lol ;-P

From memory it was recorded on a warm summers night/morning around sunrise in my inner city apartment after a big night out nd mixed on a shitty first generation M-Audio Torq DJ controller whilst I was transitioning across from vinyl.

Whilst I don't have tracklist and finding it hard ID'ing some of the tunes it kicks of with some summery bouncy jazzy two-steppy stuff into some stripped back 'proper' original sub heavy dubstep into an absolute belter of remix that Plastican and Skream did of a Black Ghosts song 'Some Way Through This' about half way through. Big choon!

Then into some darker but wicked Tech Itch and Distance (ones Traffic & Mistral is what Shazam is suggesting) back into some bouncey deep stuff. Goes across quite a wide sectrum of 2007-2008 dubstep as things started to move towards the chainsaw inspired stuff in 2009-2010.

It's definitely worth a listen and good reminiscing as I do miss this kind of Dubstep. Whilst the chainsaw stuff was great with some huge tracks and great memories which had its place on a packed dancefloor, what was a progressive evolving music seemed to stop dead in its tracks with uninspired tracks where they each song sounded the same as the one that preceded IT and ultimately nothing compared to these great tunes and the many, many like it.

No tracklist yet but some nice 'Pre-Chainsaw' rolling Dubstep moving into DnB half way through.

So it was time for a new PowerDub mix, I've been promising it for 4 years and finally had a few beers and just did it. Turns out Dubstep got a lot faster (140bpm to 150bpm) and the songs got shorter (from 4-5 minutes to 3 minutes so a bit harder to get tricky). The tunes are tight and energetic, good for the gym, car or whatever the fuck you wanna do really.

Ctoafn's First Dubstep Mix June 2007

Put a gig on with Raiden on a Sunday @ Miss Libertines back in 2008 which happened to be Mothers Day of all days (got double booked). Don't have a tracklist but its nice old deep dubstep to warm up, I quite enjoy listening to it now though, The tunes are deep, melodic but tough at the same time.

Raiden (who is genuinely one of the nicest guys in the scene) came in early for a producers workshop and then went on and dropped one of the best sets I've ever heard which was done live with Ableton. The set which was recorded and uploaded in 2 parts had over 20,000 DL's. I've still got it and if there is enough interest, I'll put it back up.

ctoafn (Couldn't Think Of A F%#king Name) has been a DJ and promoter for the last 18 years in Melbourne moving back home to Adelaide January 2016 and back to Melbourne late 2021). He was the man behind Collateral Damage and Therapy Sessions Melbourne representing the darkside of drum n bass and has toured/supported acts including Dylan, Limewax, Current Value, Audio, Robyn Chaos, The Sect, Raiden, The Panacea, Dom & Roland, SPL and more. He also promoted and supported the "original and infamous" Spor & Ewun show @ The Palace, Evol Intent, John B, Apex (Unknown Error) and Telemetrik to name a few.

After giving up promoting in 2009 (except for the odd warehouse party) ctoafn spent a lot of time successfully getting his brand of bass music to the masses - Fast and furious mixing, dancefloor filling, bass ridden, filthy yet funky bass ;-) Whether its DnB, Dubstep, Glitch Hop, Moombahton or Breaks you are bound to hear it all.

His "PowerDub" mix released in July 2010 has received props from across the globe with thousands of downloads, CDs etc and then stepped it up and went onto 3 decks for the 2nd PowerDub Mixtape.

This led to playing for all of the large Melbourne bass music crews like Tekstep, BBA, Heavy Innit, The Operatives, PTA as well as Bass Elements & Enchanted Forest in Adelaide, Earth Frequency Festival in Brisbane, Dark Hearts in Christchurch. He's been a resident for one of the top 3 bass crews in Melbourne 'Twisted Audio' for 10 years after stepping back into his DNB roots. He then moved back to his home town of Adelaide to perform with Bass Element & The Collective which in the process across Melbourne & Adelaide been given the responsibility to warm up or close for a 'who's who' of D&B & Dubstep acts including Noisia, Calyx & Teebee, S.P.Y, Dillinja, Dub Phizix & Strategy, Rene La Vice, LTJ Bukem, Spectrasoul, DRS, Datsik, 16 Bit, SPL, Funtcase, Gemini, Audio/Pixel Fist, Phaeleh, Current Value, Dieselboy, State Of Mind, Evol Intent, Mefjus, Stickybuds, Emperor, InsideInfo, Cooh/Balkansky, Xilent, Fred V & Grafix, The Upbeats, Black Sun Empire, DC Breaks, Ivy Lab, Ekko & Sidetrack, Trei, Brookes Brothers, Annix, Jade, Teddy Killerz & Tantrum Desire.
