Taking a brief detour from his normal abrasive distorted sound, Pinion showcases his broad spectrum as an artist with the Desire EP. The first original track, Recollection shifts gears quite drastically with a 135 BPM stormer with enough soul and melody to make the uncharacteristically fast tempo seem inconsequential. The title track, Desire (Half Measure),starts out of the gate with a thunderous half beat 808 coupled with a swinging hihat pattern that slowly works ethereal vocal slices into the forefront, accompanied with a modulating synth pad that evolves into a defining melody. The sister track, Desire (Full Measure), has very similar characteristics as the original, but allowing a little more edge for the dancefloor to build on. In addition to these three or iginal, comes Kyle Geiger on remix duties to round out the EP with a housier take on Desire, but still enough bite to fit nicely into any techno set.

Kyle Geiger brings you his third installment on his imprint Cubera in a quest to bridge some crucial gaps between house and techno constituents.  This time, taking it a little deeper with the use of vocal work from vocalist Stefanie Jansen for the title track Scream, weaving her voice in and out of a strong synth and percussion work out.  In the second mix of the  A-side, Truncate lends his tough, stripped style for his remix of "Scream," providing a welcome contrast to the original..  On the other side, "Underneath" adjusts the EP's "sweat" dial to 11 with its shit-losing, raw synth hook.  The fact that this track even has a sweat dial that goes up to 11 should communicate something really special.  The final track Step brings more of an stabby, yet scaled back afterhours vibe to round things out, while still carrying enough critical mass to make things a little messy.

I'd like to introduce you to Will Azada, Cubera's first new artist to join the ranks beyond myself. Will comes from the Southeastern region of the US--specifically from the unlikely burg of Knoxville, Tennessee--using its relative isolation from the wider "scene" to his advantage. Seamlessly blending his unique sound with a carefree mentality, Will has created an EP for Cubera that breaks the concept of the label's single-artist roots. This collection of tracks offers up a blend of party vibes with a little attitude to them. Some tracks are tools, others are meant to be front and center, and these would certainly serve as the latter. I hope you enjoy these as much as I have over the past months.
