One of the most sought after records of all time on 20/20 Vision finally gets a re-issue from the original master recordings for its 25th anniversary. 

‘Lockdown’ has been on the radar for the next generation of vinyl collectors for many years with its “Do You Want to Feel the Bass with Me” vocoded vocal courtesy of Carl Finlow accompanied by Kong Trinity syncopated synth sounds and tight staccato drums. 

Finlow lets loose and goes freestyle on the keys for ‘On the Air’ which has stood the test of time as a bona fide slice of turn of the millennium Electro Funk. ‘Undercurrent’ continues the pulsating bass driven drama also becoming a much in demand underground dance floor weapon.

The EP is rounded off nicely with the Lo Fi 8 Bit Electro bomb that is this shape of things to come for his output as Carl Finlow - Disconnect. All the tracks are classic Finlow, all the tracks still sound as good today. Absolute essential re-issue for any record collection.

"The seventh release from the local label Vivacity Music is by Cubik, a DJ and producer with years of experience and a co-owner of the label.

 Cubik's EP titled Life With A Glass Half Full features five original tracks. Although these tracks vary, they share a common goal of creating a good mood, whether listening or dancing.

The first two tracks, Reckless 90s and Nanny Watch, are peak time house tracks with dense beats, basslines, punchy synth sounds, and euphoric breakdowns. Reckless 90s is a nod to the rave culture of the nineties and is somewhat inspired by Kink's production. Nanny Watch is more relaxed with a nice piano line and a summer atmosphere.  These are club house tracks as they should be!


The third and fourth tracks, Rise Up and Faun’s Late Afternoon, are both melodic and slightly melancholic deep house with sweet synths and vocals somewhat in the spirit of Norwegian labels like Prins Thomas's Full Pupp or Internassjonal. Faun’s Late Afternoon, or in Czech Faunovo pozdní odpoledne, also includes samples of the unforgettable voice of the actor Suchařípa from the legendary comedy of the same name. The EP concludes with the track Alive Dubby Dub, featuring a dreamy chill atmosphere."

I've been popping out some impromptu live streams on Facebook on a Sunday evening, they have an evil tune killing algorithm but I have been getting pretty good at swerving it... this is from last week, I made it all the way thru without even a yellow card so that means the mix can stay up there - FOR NOW!!!

Ruf Dug Under The Radar DJ Mix June 2020

Cubik has been actively playing since 1995 and is actually one of the longest-playing DJs in our country.
His DJ music style has obviously varied over the years, but currently, his DJ sets balance on the border of dance styles: deep house, balearic house, nu-disco, tech house, simply freestyle house with an emphasis on positive vibes.
As a natural progression flowing from his passion for music, Cubik gradually has become a music producer with numerous remixes and releases to his credit on both international and their own Vivacity Music label, which he runs together with his DJ mate, DJ Da Moon.
