Ahead of the upcoming Critical Sound Room Two takeover on 3rd April, we've been commissioned to stream another taste of yet another Critical exclusive. If you click the soundcloud player below you can hear a whole heap of what the Ivy Lab trio did when they went into the studio to remix Mefjus' 'Blame You.' The track forms part of the cunningly named Mef:Lab EP which will be released exclusively on vinyl and digital this Friday (27th March) through the Critical store and Beatport. The other track on the 12" is yep, you guessed it, Mefjus remixing Ivy Lab and their track 'Sunday Crunk' making a packaged out of a duo of cuts that have reportedly been shelling down the Critical raves since their creation.

Mefjus - Blame You Ft. Zoe Klinck (Ivy Lab Remix)

Rift makes a powerful return on Dispatch Limited with the Black & Gold EP, a five-track collection that marks a fresh chapter in his sound. After stepping back from production to reset his creative direction, Rift channels a rawer approach, drawing on the influence of early 2000s drum & bass while weaving in the tense, atmospheric qualities of cinematic scores. The result is an EP that feels both stripped-back and expansive, balancing heavy pressure with eerie, suspenseful sound design.

The project is also shaped by visual art. The title track, “Black & Gold,” was the first piece written for the EP, sparked by inspiration from Bill Elis’ artwork. The visual tone of his work set the foundation not only for the track itself but also for the identity of the full release.

Across the EP, Rift explores themes of unease and intensity. From the brooding atmospheres of “Teardrops” and “Paralysed” to the rolling momentum of “Tremors” and “Sinners,” the journey culminates in the title track’s stark and cinematic presence. Each cut feels deliberately crafted, reflecting both a reverence for drum & bass history and a forward-focused creative vision.

The Black & Gold EP has already gained strong support across the scene, with Philth playing a central role in championing the tracks both in sets and during the production process. Additional support has come from Enta and Cause4Concern, underlining the impact of Rift’s return.

We figured it was time for some d&b again, we had a few tracks lying around for a while that we wanted to finish and put out and we had 2 collabs that went well together. We wanted to call it the 'Tryhard EP', cause all the tracks were so full on. Then Nik & Karol (khomatech.com) started on the artwork, and couldnt really come up with anyuthing cool with that name, so we decided 'Imperial' was a better name. The artwork took about a week to make. We are very proud of this EP.

Imperial w/ Phace 
Phace came out to Groningen again, as he tends to do, to do music. We started this one without working on the main groove first, Florian had brought this awesome chord progrssion. We made the intro and progression from it, which is quite different musically from our normal stuff. Then we went a bit theatrical with the music, i guess we kind of suprised ourselves with the intensity of the drop. But it was refreshing to do. And it´s been going down rather well in our sets..

Tryhard 
This is an older track that has had quite a few incarnations. It used to be called ´lomp´, which translates to crude, or blunt. We had it lying around unfinished for a long time, and a certain youtube set rip was getting a lot of love, so we figured we'd finish it. Changed the mix, added a rollout section, etc. One of the inspriations for this track is Bad Company - 'Dogfight'.. such a sick tune.

Dustup w/ The Upbeats 
Our friends The Upbeats came down to Groningen amidst one of their Europe tours and we hung out, got in the studio, found an old unused bass riff, used it in the buildup, recorded all of us going 'HA' and 'ZU', worked on drum fills for a long time, temporarly called the tune 'Pumpers', jumped around in the studio and voila! 'Dust Up' was born.

Containment 
This track has had many faces also. It started as a bit of a Kemal tribute and and an attempt to do as many things with synths as possible, like the main drums for example (FM8). Along the way it became a journey back into the dark spacious sound of early 2000 era D&B.

Official ‘Fade Black’ launch day! Most of you have probably figured out by now what we are up to from all the faffing about with Facebook page names. Long story short, we just enjoy making tunes together, and feel we do it better with a couple beers and a bit of banter in the studio, so after much talk, we decided we wanna do this music thing together.

But this doesn’t mean compromise in any way, we’re working smarter and faster than ever before and are going to be bringing you the best blend of both our styles in this new project, more future and forward thinking than we’ve ever been. We’re currently working on our wrapping up our first ‘Fade Black’ EP for a summer release, a few singles with some of our incredibly talented friends, as well as our much awaited Blej remix as part of a single with our good pal Halogenix.

To celebrate the launch of our new project we’ve made a modest little roller for ya called ‘Unknown’, which is free to download via the buy link in return for some support on our socials. This is so we can keep you up to date with the project and share this new journey with you all.
