Both as a DJ and a producer, Patrick Gräser aka @answercoderequest has honed a hybrid musical approach that stands out in a world of uniform 4/4 techno. Melding pad-driven harmonies, intricate breaks and an industrial sonic palette, Gräser has occupied a unique space within the @ostgutton-official cosmos since debuting on the label in 2012 and becoming a Berghain resident shortly thereafter. His various releases and remixes for Ostgut Ton, MDR, Dolly Deluxe and Monkeytown Records continue to be highly sought after. As a DJ, he has taken his bass- and breaks-heavy techno to clubs and festivals around the globe, while remaining an integral part of the Berlin scene.

For our show, he recorded a special set that is changing the mood from the beginning to a climax in the middle with a long outro to the end. This mix is made to connect people in the times of self-isolation and to give everyone a positive mood. If you open your imagination, you can explore the personal feelings of Patrick hidden behind the music. Ambient for him is not only background music but a cure that helps you feel more calm and positive in hard times.

The initial spark of creativity resides deep within us like a seed, waiting for water and warmth before germinating into a floral wonder. Our next guest is a rather fine gardener in this sense, having cut his teeth for 10 years in the Berlin underground before flourishing into the internationally renowned artist he is today. At this point, Rødhåd is an artist who hardly needs an introduction. Launching his party series-turned-label Dystopian in 2009, he undoubtedly helped facilitate the musical landscape of modern-day Berlin with his uncompromising vision of techno. Known for his infectious smile and ginger personality, he has won many hearts and minds with his selections and productions ever since his humble beginnings. 

With his new label, WSNWG, he has entered a new chapter of collaborative synergy and fluid audio-visual exploration, releasing his first full-length ambient album MOOD as well as tracks with Ø [PHASE], Lady Starlight, and Antigone among others. It is in this spirit that we have asked him for a contribution to Unrush, and his mix does not disappoint. Clocking in at just over an hour, it takes us through sweeping valleys of sound, whispers of content, and everything in between. This is a studio mix, started with an initial live take and then combed over meticulously with automated filters, eq, and fx. This is the same setup I use to play out, minus the automation. There is rarely a point when only one track is playing. I always try to find mixes that feel like a new track emerges from the combination. I imagine the optimal listening environment to be eyes-closed with headphones on, but I also hope you will feel an irresistible urge to move at some points ;)
