Ex Cathedra - Hear My Prayer

When faced with losing all my live work with choirs in March I set up the Patreon Community of Song on 16 March 2020 to keep singers motivated and learning. The very first song I posted on was an original round by myself called Kaze Hikaru. I had never made a video before. I visited Spout Woods a lot during early lockdown and the first bit of phone filming I did was there. A year on, and I have re-recorded the song, returning to the woods, and some of the singers from the Community have recorded themselves remotely, some sending in video to add to the mix.  “Kaze Hikaru” is Japanese for "shining wind", the first warm wind after a long hard winter..." It seemed appropriate then but even more so now.

"Calvados was written for my Father, Dennis Davison,  who created the Peace Orchard as an act of both remberance and as a gift to future generations.  It's a place of sanctuary and hosts creative events throughout the year.

Dennis was just 21yrs old and involved in armed combat in  France in the Spring of 1944.  Antonys poem resounds with the promise of what might have been.  The lives lost, the memoirs unwritten and the Calvados that was never savoured

Coventry Peace Orchard - Introduction and Calvados

‘Day of Equal Night’ revolves around the evening before the Spring Equinox, the cusp of regeneration at the edge of Winter. It conjures the marking of an event down through the ages and a sense of potential that acknowledges dormant life that sleeps in the dark.  

The piece reconfigures a sense of place to align with people’s growing desire in the current crisis to connect in some way with the natural world. With the intention of responding to his need, the work has been created as a 3D audio immersive experience when wearing headphones.
